If someone referred to your wife or mother as a skank would you find that offensive? Skank is only a word after all.

I would like to list the words that best describe you but it get me banned forever.

One can only assume your obvious lack of education and missing out on loving parents who taught you how to behave makes you feel that your coarse language is amusing.
But as my old dad used to say " you cant educate pork and there sure aint no cure for stupid ".
Have a fine day in the gutter where you live dear boy.

You will be remembered as one who cast the first stone. It isn't 1930 and you aren't anyone's arbiter of taste and use of the language. There is indeed no cure for stupid but there is also no cure for thinking you set the standards for anyone other than yourself.

For people who are really picky about their steaks, look for Creekstone Farms Prime grade beef. Hard to findd at retail, but sometimes in the best steakhouses if they are telling their secrets..

It is generally present in the atmosphere at a very low concentration, about 0.04% today. In the past, it's been as high as 10 times that level. It can be quite a bit higher inside buildings or other enclosed spaces...perhaps as high as 0.1%, which is 1,000 parts per million. It turns out that the 0.04%, or 400 parts per million, represents just about the lowest level evident over any sustained period in the earth's history. If the level decreases much from that, respiration in plants will overtake photosynthesis, and plants will become net consumers of oxygen instead of producers of it.

interesting. A city-owned performance facility where I live was forced by the EPA to redo the HVAC system in the concert hall where the local symphony performs. The air was recirculated like that in an airplane, and the level pf CO2 was well above legal limits. So it isn't classical music that puts folks asleep, it's CO2!.

Dry ice is ALL CO2, and expands a great deal as it evaporates, but it is cold enough that it thaws slowly. I suspect that you just didn't have enough dry ice. But keep going for that Darwin award.

Bill, you are correct that I took up photography as a hobby years ago, but I do not consider myself an expert. However, I do know if I like something or not. I can also do A vs B comparisons and make a choice for myself. And I will say that right here in UHH "Nudie Section" there are plenty of images to compare. Tim's "art" is but a small slice of the spectrum.

I have been to many museums and art galleries to see their offerings, and I go on the assumption that what is presented is considered worthy of being called "art." I have scratched my head at many of the pieces trying to figure out why this "piece of crap" is considered art when down the hall is a wonderful painting or sculpture that really moves me. Of course, I acknowledge that there is another patron who may have exactly the opposite take. That is the nature of human likes, dislikes and preferences. And while I have the choice of entering an art gallery or passing it up, I have yet to find myself in an art gallery where I have been told by the management, curators, or on occasion the artists themselves that I don't know s@@t about art.

It is no secret that I don't find many of Tim's offerings appealing. I expressed those views early on and was basically told by "the master" that my opinion is worthless. Well, sorry, not to me it isn't. And I am entitled to say so. Of course, Tim decided some time ago that I am just a stupid art-uneducated technophile and no longer answers any of my comments. But I am somewhat "flattered" to be named in several of his disparages of posters who, like me, don't connect positively with his images; I guess I have become the poster boy of the Tim Bashers.

You seem to hold an opinion similar to that of Tim in that you distinguish between "opinion and informed opinion." Do you have an MFA dgree? Is yours an informed opinion or are just a hack who likes soft porn (as presented by Tim)? Does your opinion count more than mine?

How technical are you when it comes to cameras (optics, mechanics, electronics)? How good are you with lighting techniques? Do you pay attention to background/foreground in composing your shots? Do you "pose" your subjects in the case of portraits/figure shots? How proficient are you at post processing? I mention these technical/mechanical aspects of photography only to tell you that if you think you are good in those areas... well, Tim says they are worthless skills when it comes to creating art.

I express my opinion on images presented on this forum because:
- I have an opinion that I think is worth sharing
- I am entitled to express that "personal uninformed" opinion
- I think the poster might be looking for feedback
- I think I have seen enough images, read enough books on photography, read "informed opinions" on images and learned from those critiques, that my assessment of an image is somewhat more analytical than a thumbs-up or thumbs-down.

As a final comment I will get back to your "opinion and informed opinion" comment. It really is up to the reader/recipient of the opinion, not the issuer, to decide on whether the opinion has merit. Tim and his supporters are always telling folks that they have the choice to look or not. Well, Tim -- and you perhaps -- have the option of liking or not liking the comment, informed or not.

Just so you know, I have almost the same degree as Ansel Adams, a BA in applied music. I continued into a masters program but gave it up after a year and a half as it was something that was a waste of money. I then continued on in life as a commercial photographer then an industrial photographer and eventually a writer and photographer. I make a living at it.

I'm glad to see that you now identify your opinions as just that, but your earlier criticisms were more along the line of this stuff is crap, and I will argue that with you endlessly. Trust me , there's a lot on this forum that I find distasteful but I keep out of it. I only came out as I though the litany of ill informed posts were uncalled for.

Our society has been in a state of decline for many years. There was a day when someone with no advanced education in a certain area would be respectful to those who spent the time and trouble to do that. I suspect that JohnFrim is someone who took up photography as a hobby many year ago, and now considers himself an expert. Although I am sure he know well the nuts and bolts of photography, I seriously doubt he has subjected himself to the rigors of a fine arts degree. It is sad that many of us have lost the ability to discern between opinion and informed opinion.

Based on your very long response, my takeaway is you feel you are an artist of the highest degree and most of the rest of us just don't understand what great art/photography is. Therefore, you don't care if people do not consider what you post as art. As long as you can justifying what you do, then be damned everyone else. Got it.

Artists don't do art to please others. they do it to express themselves. So you are exactly right, in particular, to hell with you. Welcome to the real world.

Why don't you be honest with yourself. Looking back over this post you will see the majority of responders do not think your post are very good. Why not ask yourself, "Ok, what do I need to change in my technique to get better reviews of my work." Isn't that what personal growth is all about?

People don't come here for personal growth. If you are doing that, part of your personal growth would be to not visit places like this, and likely anything on the internet. Photos are shown to share their artistic vision to all. Although I don't always like Timmers work, I respect what he does. As some one who holds a fine arts degree (in music) and has collected art for over 35 years, I get it. Occasionally I might suggest ways Timmers could improve his work as I see it, but I would never call him a pornographer.

Our society suffers from our puritan ancestors. For some unknown reason, they have returned in force.

You are correct, sir. Alto sax. A reviewer described his sound as being"like a dry martini." Desmonds response, "No more like three martinis."

I'm not specifically avoiding diffraction. What I said applies to any and all of the raft of tiny things this list dotes on. I don't care if it's diffraction, an element not centered, improperly attached lenshood, or whatever, then I try something different.

And I will stop down if needed. but I also understand that there's many a time that it is impossible to get a good photo from a certain location at a certain time of the day. We all need to learn to live with that.

I assume you are asking about the final sentence about charging in series or individually.

Yes

Charging in series requires you to charge more than one battery at a time. A charger that can charge a single cell will charge the batteries individually.

That I understand.

I would expect the manufacturer's description would let you know. I haven't read any recently since I'm not in the market for a new charger.

I would expect that too, but often the stuff on the net is a bit thin.

Both the battery brand and the charger are important.

I was using cheap NiCd batteries in my speedlights for a while, but I was getting inconsistent results. Part of the problem was the shelf life of the charge on the battery and part of the problem was the longevity of the battery. I would mark my batteries so I knew how old they were and could charge and use them as a consistent group.

Someone recommended Eneloop batteries and I tried them out. They were not much higher priced than what I had been using so I got two sets. They held a charge significantly longer than the old NiCd batteries. However, the length of operation was still inconsistent.

I finally figured out that my old charger was just a cheap one that came with a set of NiCds. It charged batteries two at a time. You couldn't just charge one. Eventually I figured out that it was charging the batteries in series. That meant that no matter what the initial charge on the two batteries was, the charger would provide them both with the same charge because when one of the batteries reached full charge, the voltage would go up, signalling that the battery was fully charged. The problem was that only one of the batteries was fully charged, not both of them. When the voltage goes up, the charger senses that and stops charging.

So I found a new charger. A MAHA 8-battery charger. It would charge anywhere from 1 to 8 batteries at a time, but it charged them individually. They all came out fully charged. That meant that a set of batteries would all discharge the same as long as they all had similar capacities (related to age and usage). The operation of the battery sets became much more consistent.

That was many years ago, so I expect there are probably several brands of chargers out there that would do the job. Just be sure that they charge the batteries individually, not in series.
