do you ever change the ratio and why? I never have, but i was watching a video where the pro was doing so.

I think it might depend on what ration the pro needed for his clients. With all the video stills being used i think it would amount to what viewing device the photographer is putting his shots on at end of line production. In film days we shot square pics and then we had to set up the negs for printing using crop cards supplied by the labs in order to get the size print we wanted for an album or frame. So I can see where a pro would want to make the change in camera as it might make his final work flow go much easier.

Yes some folks still are.

Thanks for the info but I never used a dark material over my darkroom door. I had success using the right weather stripping and a good weather seal for a door bottom. In the end I was scanning the prints to send to the printers of election materials of local politicians. The printers were by then just wanting the scans to make their B&W mailers from and not the prints.

The link below will give you as good of an explanation as any. The reason for exposing to the right that is not addressed in the video so I will explain it. On an image with high dynamic range, white whites and black black, there is data both at the extreme left and right edges of the histogram. The problem is to minimise data loss. Any data that is at the right edge of the histogram (whites) will be blown out and data will not be present and is therefore not recoverable during editing. On the other hand, some or all of the data on the left edge (blacks) may be recovered in post production. So, if you expose to the right and back off slightly from the right edge, some of the data crunched into the left edge may be recoverable, but it doesn't work the other way around. Exposing to the right provides the best way to preserve the maximum amount of detail.

I recall from courses that I had taken that the panels are set up in the order you would typically process. Thus, you would start at the top with white balance and work your way down. You definitely should start with white balance if is needed. However, I will sometimes deviate by starting with lens correction and then jump back to the top to begin working down.

Good info to know thanks

Thanks Don. Seems I do not need a few of the new things you mentioned especially the slide show part. Since I am trained in audio/video I usually just make my own slide shows in Adobe Premier which beats getting a MAC with Avid on it. I would prefer the full Adobe Premier but just would not use it often enough to make it a worthwhile purchase. Back in slide days I made a few double projector shows for business and personal use. I still have the projectors and the device to cue them up with. As with most film stuff I have a lot of things on my shelves including a wooden 5X7 view camera that still works along with it's 4x5 and 5x7 backs and a roll film back to go with it all. Then again my 2 1/4 gear is on the shelves now too. It was great info sir.

Until recently I had a Nikon D70. I copied images to my computer with Windows Explorer, which worked well for me.

Now I have a D300 and have had problems trying to copy image files. So I downloaded Nikon Transfer thinking it might work better.

From reading about it, I have a question. Will it copy to my hard disk leaving the original file on the CF card? Or does it "transfer" files so that the file is removed from the card?

Thanks for your help!

I just make folders on my selected HD and upload from the card reader built into the computer case. For pre-editing I use the windows extra large icons right click on an image and use preview screen to view all in the file folder. I'll pick one to work n and then open it in Adobe 18. save it back to the same file folder once I rename it so I can find it again. I used to use Nikon transfer but have not done so in years.

Clarity and Dehaze are the two controls I look at when I'm done processing a photo. Usually a mild tweak adds just a touch of pop.

Usually I do things like Dehaze and shake reduction before I do anything else to a shot. I wish I knew what should be done first and then last. I think Adobe could tell me if I wanted to spend a monthly contract with them. I am up to Photoshop 18 now.

Hi everyone its been a awhile since I’ve posted! Ok so here is my dilemma. I currently have a Canon 70D and a few lenses for it! I understand that most will not work on a FF. I own a canon 17-55, 85 1.8, 60 macro, 100 macro, 70-200L f.4 and a Tokina 11-16 which is one of my favorites. I also understand that a FF is more expensive. I though am struggling with selling most of it and then buying a used 6d Markii. This is the thing, I do a lot of fine art photography and some sports photography. I just purchased a semi expensive, or to me anyways, variable ND 10 stop filter as I am in love with long exposure work. Is it worth making the jump into this newer FF camera? I’m really liking the features on it being it hits all the boxes including swivel touch screen Bluetooth and WiFi. Will I have the sharper crisper photos that I can have printed and framed? Here are some samples of what I love.

Nice shots. I think the best FF is the D850 and it still is lower priced than the Nikon top of the line cameras. $3.6 G versus over 5.5 G to me is a good price. As soon as the D850 can be found without waiting and my charge card is lowered to zero I plan on buying it, unless Nikon shows up with a better 45MPX FF.

I'm throwing this out as a recommendation to those folks who would like to process their own film but feel they don't have a suitable space and don't want to use a bag or want to do film enlarging and don't see how getting enough light blocked out of a room in their residence is possible. This URL is for a heavy black cloth that goes by the trade name of commando cloth and is used in the film industry to block unwanted light contamination.

I use it to light proof a bath in my home to make a dark room when I need it. It works great for its intended purpose.

I thought no one was making prints in the dark any longer. My dark room has been in boxes for many years now. I would not mind selling some of it off since it is not used by me.

Received an offer from Adobe that I can purchase the 2019 upgrade for $90. Looking at the feature set between that and 2018, doesn't seem like there's a lot I could use except for the increased performance (so they say) and maybe some bug fixes (which I don't know about). Has anyone made the upgrade to 2019 and would they consider it worth it?

18 was not much better than 15. Though it did have a few tweeks that I liked. I don't think 19 would be much better than 18 and I think I will wait to see if a 20 shows up. I was with the impression that there would be no 19 and that Adobe was planning to go all out for their monthly charge rather than update to a newer version.

All of us are likely to favor the cheapest of otherwise identical products. If you can deliver any product for less, you can sell it more easily than if it’s expensive, and only infrequently does the source change our loyalty to our own bottom lines.
How many of us own foreign cars? How about clothing or anything else from Walmart?
Like others have said, economics is global, and to think otherwise is delusional!

But it does not have to be global. America stood on its own before politicians and big corporations decided to use cheap foreign labor. Our government's fault for allowing it to happen. We Americans can stand ono our own again but we have to stop giving land and money to foreign countries while bringing our people home to work here. Also we need to stop selling or giving our processes and designs we developed here in the USA to foreign interests who use them against us by offering cheap labor. Close it all off to foreign countries as well as foreign people then rebuild the country we have and take care of our poor and downtrodden here first. Stop all relief to other countries and let the churches handle it if they want to.

I would't put it exactly that way because someone could misinterpret your statement and go too far to the right and blow out the highlights. The highlights should be slightly (<1%) backed off from the right edge of the histogram to insure the broadest possible dynamic range and maintain highlight detail.

Is there a link to how the histogram works?

"I do understand what you are saying" you could have stopped there.

The court is basically saying the requirement already existed in the law and agrees with plaintiff that it should be enforced. This is not just a semantic difference. It goes to the core of our form of government, the operation of our three branches and the concept of balance of power.

We Americans pay too much tax generally as compared to what is fair. I and a lot of other Americans really would like to see a 10% earnings tax only to all even the rich of the richest which would simplify all tax forms federal. As for the state let them just collect sales tax and property tax. Our government overspends on foreign policies. I say stop all money going to the foreign countries. We need it here at home more than they do. Especially when the kid next door and his parents are evicted for not paying rent due to job loss of both parents.
Build the wall we have an invasion coming to our boarders. An invasion we cannot feed or house especially since we cannot take care of our next door neighbor living on our streets and being citizens of our country.
