Suggest you try UsedPhotoPro.com. That’s where I got my 5D iv, looks absolutely new, but nearly $1000 under the new price last time I looked. Good luck.

Looking at the photos, I don’t see a significant difference between those taken with the mirrorless camera, or the older DLSR camera. The only PP I did was to crop one of them just a bit. Taken hand held with each. So although I had difficulty with the EVR and switched to the optical viewfinder DLSR, the photos are OK either way. Thanks to all for your comments and your tips. The first is with the mirrorless, the second with DLSR.

Hello UHH community. I have recognized for some time that there is a lag in ability to take consecutive shots quickly with a mirrorless, due to the EVF. Generally, there are ways to work around that. Last night we had a total eclipse of the moon. On the “inbound” segment, I was using a mirrorless camera. As the eclipse got more complete, the EVF system could no longer support even finding the subject. As the eclipse was ending later on, I went back to my DLSR and there was no problem whatsoever in acquiring and taking the photos.

While I like the features of each, generally I use the DLSR (a Canon 5D Mk iv) for local use and road trips, and the smaller mirrorless for compactness while traveling. Now I see one more differentiator.

Have any of you experienced this issue with low light capability with the EVR in a mirrorless camera system? Would appreciate knowing if you have found ways to overcome this problem.

Thank you all. Jim R

I agree with bsprague. I had a similar choice back in 2017, and got a used Olympus PEN-F. With a pancake midrange zoom lens, it fits in your front pocket like a point and shoot, but because the Olympus line has a number of lenses I was able to bring along another two, both very small compared to the FF Canon equivalent lenses. It is less obtrusive when you are a tourist, and I have not missed any sort of shot that I would have been able to take with my FF Canon outfit. Good luck with your decision. And PS: I bought the Olympus camera and lenses used, and a very good price, from my local camera store. JimR

I had the same type of problem being a long time Canon person. I bought a used Olympus PEN-F, but any Olympus camera would do. Currently, two Olympus bodies plus three lenses all fit into a relatively small over the shoulder, very flat, bag, the size of a laptop computer bag. It has served me well for my most recent extended trips flying by air. Just for you to consider. JimR

Back in 2018 I had the same issue. A trip of several weeks in Europe including a cruise. I checked out options at my local camera store, and the owner suggested I try the Olympus line. I did buy an initial set up, and have used it on three following trips in Europe. Everything, two bodies, four lenses, all fit in one over the shoulder slim bag, the size of a messenger bag. I use it as the carry on on the airplane, and then for all my walking around. It has been absolutely great. You will also find that the 5 series and 1 series camera bodies, and a good selection of lenses (but not all) are weather resistant, which means I use them in light rain with no protection. Good luck with your decision! JimR

After some research on line and hands on at my local camera store, I just bought a used one, like new with a shutter count under 200. I intended to “upgrade” my 5D Mark ii to a Canon mirrorless. After exploring the need to have an adapter in order to mount each lens, the recommendation that the adapter first be put on the lens and then the body, and recognizing that I’m very satisfied with my current FL lenses (including a couple of “L” lenses, I changed my mind and went for the 5D Mark iv. I am really pleased with it. The menu system is a huge upgrade from the Mark ii, there is far more resolution, and some additional features that I find very useful. In short, I am very happy with this camera. I’m not a person who jumps for the newest bells and whistles, but prefer to get used to the features and use the equipment for a few years. Hope this helps. JimR

When I was in high school in the 1960s, a tall ship gathering was going to happen in New York harbor. I went to one of the big camera shops and bought a now-unremembered low end SLR without a built in exposure system. Using my dad’s incident light meter (which I still have) I took many photos of those tall ships. I was so new to photography that I had not realized the 50mm standard lens would not bring the ships in close. Joining the USAF and being sent to Okinawa, I bought a “real” SLR, the Canon FT-QL at the BX, which served me well for many years. And Okinawa was the place to buy what you needed at very reasonable prices - things like telephoto, zoom, and wide angle lenses. That was my real introduction to photography. But developing was hit or miss - the local off base labs often did poor quality processing, and the only alternative was to mail your rolls of film back to the States. We’ve certainly come a long way since then.

It is really interesting to read everyone’s stories here. Brings back some good memories and shared experiences.

I would suggest that many people have more than one “tool” for a specific purpose. For example, many families have more than one car, perhaps different body types (SUV, SAV, sedan) and choose which one to use on a give day depending on what they need on that day. Snow? All wheel drive day, etc. I use my full frame system for days when I am driving to the location of the activity, maybe an arboretum, maybe a landscaped garden, or the nearby lake and river. But when I am carrying my photo gear over my shoulder or in a backpack (like a trip by air) then I use the MFT system. Both give me excellent results. So for me it comes down to the quality of the system, and the weight/size of the system. I got into the MFT system only five years ago in prep for a trip to Europe, and have been most satisfied with the compactness of a kit of several lenses and two camera bodies, all fitting in an over the shoulder bag. So in a nutshell, it all comes down to personal preference like so many other things we do. JimR

Because of multiple disks, I’d say it’s a milk frothier. Heat the skim milk but not boil it, fill this half way max, and with quick-up and down strokes it will froth the milk for caffe latte or cappuccino.

Beautiful shots. We’ve rented cabins over the years in the NC mountains and it is beautiful whatever season it is. Thank you for sharing!

Presuming the time and date settings in the cameras were consistent with each other, I do this all the time. Once you put the photo files into folders on your computer, just go to the view tab, click on “details” and then in the list format (without thumbnails) sort by date. Either ascending or descending. Then, you can go back to view tab and pick large icons, medium, etc. Once you do this, your thumbnail icons will show up in date and time sequence, regardless of the camera or file number. Hope this helps. JimR.
