One interesting aspect is his mention of keeping notes. In his books, he emphasizes keeping notes. There is even an illustration of the page form for doing so.

Someone had written asking him about one of his photographs.

I've heard this story where he was just in the right place at the right time with the right equipment and the eye for a great image, with literally seconds to set up his equipment, and make the correct exposure calculations without a light meter. I wonder how many photographers working today could have pulled that off. I guess that's why he is considered one of the greats.

Interesting. I read it as he had a filter to adjust for moon being Zone 7 - any idea what filter he used?

His letter says it was a G filter. That would probably be an orange filter, although current top results on a Google search indicate it would be some kind of water purification filter. Heh heh.

I'll have to look for that information. I remember reading it somewhere.

I think it's in one of his books Bob, I'll try to find it. Done lots of 'Adams' type stuff in my darkroom, have lots of b&w filters, should have remembered!

G is generally an orange filter.

I am surprised he used a 23.5 inch lens - a very LONG lens - even for 8X10 - approx. twice the diagonal.......

Thanks for sharing .....

Judging from the change in exposure that he stated, it is most likely a yellow filter. But, then again, varying the suggested exposure compensation can't be ruled out.

I checked my filters, I have 8 going from yellow to orange, plus about the same for cameras.

Dick, considering his listing a G filter plus the exposure compensation for that filter, I'm pretty sure orange is it.
