I will wait to see the results of actual tests once the lens is available. I am a NPS member and was offered early purchase rights, but I own a 200-400 wich I love and with a 1.4 add on it extends my range. AS to price value I can only offer the following. I got my 200-400 on e-bay right after they came out for $4000. They now sell at close to $7000.

I have been there twice and it is awsome. You will need a long lens for much of your shooting and a wide angle zoom lens for close ups and scenic. Often you will be shooting penguins within feet of you. You will need a light, but srturdy tripod because there will be times that you can walk a great distance to get to shooting sites. You will need a fully waterproof bag to carry your camera equipment from the mother boat to the inflatables and then when getting on and off the inflatable ashore. Often is some surf. You will also have to be able to shoot your long lens hand held when crusing in the ice pack.In short you will experence a lot of variety in shooting options, but weight is a factor you must consider. I hope you are going on a long trip vs a short one, because the Falklands and South Georiga are awsome. Especially S. Gerogia, which offer the most dramatic scenery. Good luck.

I have done this type shot many times for advertising and used to teach classes that involved this type shot. Always shoot at an angle. You can do some tests by putting a sign against some glass and shoot it to get the right angle so you can read the sign.

f you are using a flash be sure to shoot at a 45 degree angle to eliminate bounce back from glass.

Basicly you charge an hourly rate and a rate for post production time if you are going to provide finished images. This is usually the same as the hourly rate. Often the shooting rate is a 4 hour minimum. Then a rate for time and cost if you are going to provide finished prints. The rate you will sharge is up to you and how well you know who you are shooting for.

Remember, time is money

I have shot several at the request of family members. Should do it. Memories are preserved.

I am currently shooting them as an assignment. In those cases I contact the familys involved for permission and make all shots available to them at no charge.

I have full frame and DX cameras (Nikon) and primarly use the DX caneras. I have shot sports (college football, NFL, PGA, LPGA and USOC) I also shoot a lot of wildlife. I like the longer range the DX cameras give me and find it easy to estimate what area of a shot I do not see. When shooting wide angle scenec shots I prefer the non DX cameras because I will not be cropping. It is all a matter of individual choice and your pocket book.

amphoto1 is 100% correct. I have had several images used for books, including several covers. Photo credit does not buy you squat, not even a cup of coffee. Never give your images away for free. There are programs that will detail what you should charge based upon circulation, book run, etc and will give you a reasonable price to charge.

Yellowstone in February is great. Have been there several times. Best bet is to go to the Mammouth Gate and either stay at the lodge or just outside the park (cheaper) The road to Cook is kept open, so you can drive to the LaMar Valley and get lots of wildlfe, especially if the snow is high, which it is this year.

You will get close bison, elk, including bulls in the late afternoon, cyotes, a possible wolf shot or two and rocky mountain sheep. Plus lots of snow shots. Dress warm and get out early and stay late. You can arrange for snow cat trips to other parts of the park ata the lodge. Have fun
