I knew what IG was! However, I half went into panic mode when I saw those two letters because for most of my (former) career that meant the Inspector General kids were coming to visit our facility and I had to be prepared to deal with "what out of left field" paperwork they wanted to see. Not all bad, sometimes they just wanted to see the studio or chat about shooting their kid's sporting events and not overly concerned about the eyewash safety log for the darkroom we no longer had.

Lessee, I guess as a federal employee I was at the low end of the scale. I "think" (and I'm too lazy to look it up) I ended up at ~$36.00 hour. Yes, ya'll got your tax dollars worth out of me. Never had to worry about copyrighting any of my work because it was government property either.

Nice image. I wonder if the (ahem) "apartment" on the right side is for rent? I could move in and us my 'gas money' for, uh, you know.. next door.

Analog photography has become passé. Digital photography now serves as the preferred method. It offers both convenience and control.

The expense of operating and maintaining a darkroom for a niche pursuit of photography likely struck budget-makers as unjustified given its obsolescence. We may presume that if so, they then applied the freed funds elsewhere in the budget.

Consider also that the history of photography tells us that this activity remains subject to the advance of technology.

Yes, but I was (mainly) referring to Jerry and the removal of the darkrooms (but wondering if they had a small "wet area.") seeing he was an analog guy in a digital would. Of course with the advent of digital they wouldn't need 30 some odd B&W darkrooms plus the 20 some color. However, back in the mid 70's they taught RIT students how to work with less than state of the art equipment. Color printing for example was a ton of fun. One had to master the additive printing and process the image on a drum processor before moving on to subtractive printing and the Nord processor so I was wondering if they left that option open. Kind of the comes around goes around, Vinyl-> 8 Track -> Cassette -> CD -> and now a resurgence in Vinyl.

Yup, another of our brethren gone. I believe he would have had "issues" at RIT nowadays. They just renovated and took out the darkrooms. (I'm not sure if the kept a small area for the analog folks or not)

Your trip has been an interesting follow. I did notice that one of the Golden Flames has gone (ahem) out.

However, when actually driving, several such rules do have grey areas that road safety steps in and requires "bending". Jurisdictions may have varying ideas, but safety is paramount.

For sure. When I was running EMS we were (technically) "supposed" to notify a town with a strict 35 mph speed limit that we were entering at a higher than posted speed. In my whole career I never did, nor anyone else that I know of. It was one of those laws that was probably written "way back when" and forgotten about and stayed on the books.
However one night/morning ~3am I did flip the reds on and tap the siren to run a red light at a totally deserted intersection to get back to the station and go back to bed. I/we got "busted" by the Sheriff. He followed us to the station and "informed" me that I'd done a no-no. No biggie, I still have my birthday, and they didn't cut my hair and send me off to...

A phenomenon often experienced by drivers of emergency vehicles is being hypnotized by the sweeping of the emergency light in front of the vehicle. It does happen. Just to give you as to how dangerous it can be.

The stinger really bothered me while driving. I guess I was too busy watching the guy in front of me. (Now if I was riding shotgun, whole 'nother story. Not hypnotized, but seasick)
As to defensive driving, when I got in we had some course, then we had to take the "official" defensive driving class (which was supposed to be the be all, end all driving courses) then lo and behold they dropped an EVOC class on us. I got out about a year later (moved out of state) so I have no idea if they came up with another one later or not.

BZ. I hope you get a "shout out" in the book. About 90% of my work that did and was published was credited to my department even though I was the only shooter. I'm sure there was a bunch that was published I have no idea about. No sour grapes though, I knew the rules going in.
However, I will have to check out the book having spent a number of years running EMS. I was even (ahem) "lucky" enough to be responsible for monthly training.

In my "previous" life, speaking from the EMS side of the house (six year volunteer, ~4k calls), even with red lights, siren, the stinger and hitting the high beams folks would still insist on being my (ahem) escort. I generally could tell who wasn't going to pull over and if a family member was riding up front I'd pre-warn them as to what was going to happen. Most of the time the passenger would ask me why they were not pulling over/stopping? Couldn't give them an answer. It's interesting to note that we had red lights for our POV (which really mean nothing in the scheme of things) and their use usually caused the driver in front of you to slow down and look in their rearview mirror to figure out what was going on. I ended up hardly using mine.

No company, just me, myself and I. I'm famous for mounting prints (ahem) slightly askew so other "company line" is/was "the print isn't crooked, you are" then wink to keep my nose intact.
