Those are great!

My husband and I have 7 motorcycles between the 2 of us. He taught me to ride in the early '80's. Never had a Harley, but Norton (my husband's), Triumph, Kawis and Suzukis. Dual sport and sport-touring.

My other fave was Why don't they wave, an oldie but a goodie. :-)

1- Top Ten Reasons Why Harley Riders Don’t Wave Back.

10. Afraid it will invalidate warranty. 9. Leather and studs make it too heavy to raise arm. 8. Refuse to wave to anyone whose bike is already paid for. 7. Afraid to let go of handlebars because they might vibrate off. 6. Rushing wind would blow scabs off the new tattoos. 5. Angry because just took out second mortgage to pay luxury tax on new Harley. 4. Just discovered the fine print in owner’s manual and realized H-D is partially owned by Honda. 3. Can’t tell if other riders are waving or just reaching to cover their ears like everyone else. 2. Remembers the last time a Harley rider waved back, he impaled his hand on spiked helmet. 1. They’re too tired from spending hours polishing all that chrome to lift their arms.

2- Top Ten Reasons Why Gold Wing Riders Don’t Wave Back.

10. Wasn’t sure whether other rider was waving or making an obscene gesture. 9. Afraid might get frostbite if hand is removed from heated grip. 8. Has arthritis and the past 400 miles have made it difficult to raise arm. 7. Reflection from etched windshield momentarily blinded him. 6. The espresso machine just finished. 5. Was actually asleep when other rider waved. 4. Was in a three-way conference call with stockbroker and accessories dealer. 3. Was distracted by odd shaped blip on radar screen. 2. Was simultaneously adjusting the air suspension, seat height, programmable CD player, seat temperature and satellite navigation system. 1. Couldn’t find the “auto wave back” button on dashboard.

3- Top 10 Reasons Sport bikers Don’t Wave At All.

10. They have not been riding long enough to know they’re supposed to. 9. They’re going too fast to have time enough to register the movement and respond. 8. You weren’t wearing bright enough gear. 7. If they stick their arm out going that fast they’ll rip it out of the socket. 6. They’re too occupied with trying to get rid of their chicken strips. 5. They look way too cool with both hands on the bars or they don’t want to unbalance themselves while standing on the tank. 4. Their skin tight-Kevlar-ballistic-nylon-kangaroo-leather suits prevent any position other than fetal. 3. Raising an arm allows bugs into the armholes of their tank tops. 2. It’s too hard to do one-handed stoppies. 1. They were too busy slipping their flip-flop back on.

4- Top Ten Reasons Why BMW Riders Don’t Wave Back.

10. New Aerostich suit too stiff to raise arm. 9. Removing a hand from the bars is considered “bad form.” 8. Your bike isn’t weird enough looking to justify acknowledgment. 7. Too sore from an 800-mile day on a stock “comfort” seat. 6. Too busy programming the GPS, monitoring radar, listening to ipod, XM, or talking on the cell phone. 5. He’s an Iron Butt rider and you’re not!. 4. Wires from Gerbings is too short. 3. You’re not riding the “right kind” of BMW. 2. You haven’t been properly introduced. 1. Afraid it will be misinterpreted as a friendly gesture

Very nice capture of a beautiful place.

My Uncle and his family had a cabin / house there when I was a kid. Very nice as I recall (from years ago).

Both of your daughters are beautiful. The picture where your first daughter is holding the baby and looking at you is sheer bliss. She obviously adores both of you.

Your youngest daughter reminds me of me. My husband taught me to ride on a 750 Triumph Tiger back in the '80's. I'm still riding today. A 650 V-Strom and Kawi C-10 for sport-touring.

Tell her rubber side down, shiny side up and between the ditches! Also, watch out for those left hand turners that never see us!

I wish you the best with this!

Recently a very loved aunt passed and after the funeral my cousin asked if I wouldn't mind taking some pics. I normally take nature, air-show and race pictures, so I was a little nervous about shooting people, much less family. I had my camera, but only one lens, no reflector, tripod, nothin'.....

It was awful. Everyone was ready to leave, so everything was rushed. It was absolutely the worst time of day to take pics and when I asked them to face toward the sun, they all complained and refused, so everyone was washed out on one side and shadowed on the other. There is not a lot of pigmentation in our family to help balance that effect. :-)

I would rather sit in 30 degree weather hoping to catch the evasive fox kits than go through that again!

The end result is that I have resolved to do better with actual people type portraits, so I am getting a lot of advice from this thread.

Thanks!

I really like the image before and after. The after image is beautiful. I have one suggestion. Instead of attempting to make it look like Kinkade's work; reach in and find the image that you love best. It appears you are well on the way. :-)

Great shot (and kind of mean as we have experienced lots of ice and snow the past week).

We have never had this many bikes on battery tenders in decades of riding.

The COG "Three Sisters" rally will be in Kerrville, TX this year. If we are lucky, we'll make it, but we are moving to East TN soon and hopefully that will make up for living in "Flatghanistan" for too many years. :-)

It has been really hot in Cali and the fires have been terrible. The year we left California I remember a lot of wildlife was coming out of the mountains. Cement ponds are appealing when the water dries up in the hills.

If you live in an area close to the mountains please remember that dog and cat food are very appealing when the berry patches have been picked clean or burned. Also, please keep your pets safe inside if possible. We had a problem with mountain lions just a neighborhood over from where those bears were swimming.

I like both. I think both effects can create a different tone or feel for the photograph.

I have heard the same question about Pentax for years. I was told the first time I went to a local camera club to dump my Pentax gear and go with Canon or Nikon the only real cameras on the market and that Pentax was about to fold. (That was over 20 years ago). Instead of dumping Pentax I dumped being part of that local club.

I cut my teeth with Pentax. moved over into digital with Pentax and have heard the doom and gloom. Well all I can say is I have had the K100d, the K20, K10, K7, K5 and the K3. Sold the K10 and K7 to fund a new lens or two. Use the K100d as a tool when folks want to see if photography is their new thing and make it a loaner.

The K20, 5 are great backup rigs. The K3 is still going strong. Now if Pentax disappears it means taking the best of my Pentax lenses and finding an adapter that will fit on a new line.

Do I see that as happening. Nope. In 5 years the landscape will be what it is. I figure all three cameras will last long enough that I don't have to worry about it. If all of a sudden it appears they will disappear I will pick up a K1 and be happy.

They make some great lenses and to be honest I have found that in most cases based on what one shoots it is not the camera but the person behind the camera. Hell you can get great shots with one time use cameras if you know how to shoot. Oh wait they are slowly disappearing.... drat......

Being retired and now using my Pentax gear as a way to cash in on the hobby they perform well and help keep the bank account in the black.
I have heard the same question about Pentax for ye... (show quote)

Just wanted to let you know I have been a Pentax fan for 30+ years. Film and DSLR. A few other brands too. Thanks for summing up some wisdom.

THIS:

"I have found that in most cases based on what one shoots it is not the camera but the person behind the camera."

Amen.
