One my trips to Africa I took two cameras. On one I used the 70-200 and the other had the 200/400 with the built in 1.5 extender from Canon. I also took extenders for those distant shots where I had a stable perch. Consider renting a lens. I also have a good point and shoot for those surprise too close for a big gun picture which happened with animals walking next to our vehicle. The new phones do a pretty good job with those.

I went there with a company called Images in Africa Safaris and had a wonderful experience. There were individuals on the trip as well as a family and all were pleased. We stayed at the Karen Blixen Camp on the Mara River. The owner also gives free advice and camera help and has led companies from professional photo people.

I don't know if were mentioned yet but it is a good idea to have something for those super close photos even a point and shoot where a big gun just is too much. I remember at one stop where the hyena pups were trying to climb in with use and had to be ushered away.

I have been to Sabi Sands and loved the experience. Some rough roads will keep you hanging on to the gear for sure but then there are plenty of times where you sit and watch the game. I would much prefer the 100=400 if you can get one as the scenes change so fast from sighting to sighting. If you stay in the same lodge as we did, one of the vehicles has camera supports mounted on it with swivel mounts. I carried two cameras to have better quick response. One with close up and the other with the 200-400 with extender built in. You can consider renting for the trip also. I went with imagesinafricasafaris.com if anyone wants to see what the tours are like.

Very impressive work. I am also into building scale buildings for the S guys and think the time spent at it is very rewarding.

They are great spots to photo. I remember watching a family of coyote pups playing under the foundation of a house there that made great shots too.

I did the trip recently with an all inclusive company. The also included air fare. One important thing to consider other than the listed price is what is included. My trip on the Silver Galapagos had everything included including the bar tab. By time you pay the tipping, crew gratuities, and other charges the trips can cost more than the all inclusive so be sure to add up all expected expenses before deciding. I found this out on a trip to Cuba with another company. I found that the little extra cost of a first class cruise was well worth it with them keeping wine, soft drinks and juices in my room and open bar and snacks at all hours. As to the weather, I considered the months of the year when the waters were warmer and the mating season was in full swing.

I have a few I drag around with my trains like were done in the old days. Good thing the electric toys still work well even thought it is a dying way of entertainment for the younger generation.

When I was last there, I remember seeing some guided tours for the best photo spots that were free or cheap. Check into that. I went on a moonlit hike for photo ops.

On my recent trip I took the G-4 and was very happy with it. Others seemed happy with GoPros. A couple of other people with cheaper cameras weren't happy with leaks and other problems.

I just got back from a trip out of country. When I arrived in Ecuador, my iPhone charger was missing from my checked back. I have since heard that that is common for some reason. Just FYI. I took all my camera gear in my sling bag as carry on otherwise as well as cell phone and pad.
