Thanks for all the advice! The last time I went to that venue, I saw many "flashes" going off. I can enjoy the concert without my camera!

I think most of these flashes you see are on point & shoots and have an effective range of about 10'. Good to light up the back of the heads in the row or two in front of you but doesn't help anything further. Me thinks you're better with the flash off, widest aperature, expose for the stage and hold steady!

Prior to my first wedding shoot I purchased the 17-70 2.8-4.0,OS. Love the versatility and its my main walkaround lens. My other Sigma's include the 10-20 superwide and recently bought a used (E+)70-200 2.8(non os)from Adorama and love that one too. Just can't afford Nikon glass all the time but do have a few of their 1.8's (35&50). I've heard some of the old Sigma's had some compatability issues with Nikon but I believe that's been resolved. Can't say I lust for anything else right now except maybe a 1.4tc. I'm a happy Sigma camper. Fyi, I shoot w/D200's.

The modeling industry might suffer without it, however how much pp is a debate I'm sure you've seen it in the news recently. I was surprised at the extent some agencies go to altering bodies. Legnthening necks & legs, slimming parts of bodies, enlarging eyes, raising or lowering hairlines, etc. Some of these after photos can look like a completely different person. I won't go to that extent, but I'm not photographing celebs or supermodels.

No she doesn't. She takes the words point and shoot very literally. I got that camera for her because she was previously shooting jpg's with a Fuji Finepix and then wanting me to make adjustments. I figured it would be easier by having the shot in RAW in the first place, so chose the G12 for that reason.

Too funny. So you bought her the camera for your convenience! I like the way you think.

I bought my wife a Canon G12 last year. She said at the time that she would use the monitor for composing shots. She doesn't - it's the viewfinder 100% of the time.

Does she take advantage of all those easily available settings? I just love that top panel layout!

For my pocket p&s, I have an S90 and while the size is convenient, I really miss the viewfinder. Does anyone have experience with the Panny LX5 (or LX3) w/the EVF? Not as pocketable but I'm thinking more functionable. Or do I sacrifice a little size and go w/ a G12. Comments on users of either? Thanks...

Here's some examples. 1/125th would probably give the best results that you're after although I couldn't find that particular example.

1/80th f7.1 175mm

1/160th f4.5 62mm

1/320th f4.5 62mm

I got my Cowboy Studio NPT-04 flash trigger yesterday, so I'll be lighting up the house today and driving my wife crazy. I'll be using it with two little $10 wireless Neewer flashes, so I'm looking forward to a fun day. The Neewers are not line-of-site, so they'll work almost anywhere.

If anyone has suggestions about this equipment, I'm all ears, as they say.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes. I bought a bunch of those "made in China" receivers, a trigger (mine were "ishoot") and a couple speedlights (Yongnuo 460 II's - $40/ea) a while back and they all work just fine. I have one SB600 but when you want to add more of them around for a fill, hair and background light, well my budget says "made in China". Speedlights on stands w/umbrellas helped me get off camera and start learning more about light. And of course if you're not familiar with strobist.blogspot.com, well their site is a must read. Enjoy!

Kites are a bit more reliable. You might google kite photography.

In theory, yes - very interesting and could be a lot of fun. Now in a subdivision of single family homes in suburbia USA, I think the chance for embarrassement could be much greater playing Ben Franklin rather than Chuck Yeager...

I've got a friend that does exactly that. But he does build his own quad copters and uses a Canon 7D. If you want his facebook like let me know. I don't know if he'll help you though. He's rather secretive about all his photography. He's also trying to make a buck. He's a link to one of his Youtube movies.

Ok, He's using a Gopro camera in this video, but he's building a platform for a 7D

Sounds like he's in a different league than moi. I'll be putting the gopro on my platform. That 7D is not only 4x's the weight but it's 4x's the cost of the quadcopter I'll be putting together! Besides, I'm a Nikon guy:)

Hi Bob and thanks for your thoughts. Actually I am a private pilot (ASEL) so I do understand flight. My RC experience amounts to playing around with an entry level RC helo since xmas and it's still working and in one piece! Way too small for any kind of digital camera. I've been looking at the entry level Walkera mx400 quad. Not too huge of an investment and figured once I got that down I'd ad a mount w/some sort of tilt control and a gopro or similar, we'll see.

AVSphoto - very cool. nice website and I'm jealous of your equipment! I'll bet you guys have a blast "working". I'll be taking baby steps as I get into this aspect of my shooting. Question, what type of insurance would you carry to protect your equipment, other persons or property and/or personal liability?

Hi...Newcomer with a question, which is a big surprise. Been shooting pictures and panoramas for realtors for about 12 years and want to add aerials to the menu using radio controlled quadrocopter. Have done some internet research and really like what I see from Canadian based Dragan (not misspelled), but the pricing is through the roof. Anybody know of a comparable supplier with something worthwhile that isn't priced with 5 figures?

Here's what I came across recently. I'm guessing this guy puts all the pieces together and provides you with a little one stop shopping. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qD3wrkbOc8&feature=fvsr ) A little over $3k. Suppose if you knew what you were doing you could put similar equipment together for a bit less but still seems somewhat reasonable for what you get. I emailed him but haven't heard back yet.
*just heard back, they can build you any kind of kit you're needing. located in Saskatchewan.

Being a Realtor, I shoot all my own properties and want to get into aerial pics. Anyone have experience with a remote controlled quadcopter w/camera mount and live feed? Seem to all be DIY build projects and I'd rather buy something pre-tested ready to go. Still photo's mainly but video option would be good too. Budget $1000?

We just had a New Topic about this same system last week. Check over older Topics for it.

Thanks, I didn't think to run a search for this topic but apparently I'm not alone in my thoughts! I'll put my 2 cents in on that thread.
