Nicely captured, Dexter - looks like you're already having success with the new 750!

Thanks, HEART. That was shot with the Tamron 150-600mm. The focusing system on the 750 is really quick. That and coupled with a relatively fast frame rate, just point it in the right direction and fire away.

I finally broke down and upgraded from my D200 to a D750. It took me a while partly because I really like the old 200 and partly because I am a cheapskate. I ordered it from Adorama and got the next day delivery. Set the camera all up on Friday, tried it out and was ready to go. So I thought. The next day was a track meet I wanted to take some pics so I grabbed my old 80-200 2.8 and away I went. To my dismay, the lens stopped auto focusing after just a few shots. I tried everything to get it to work. Tried the lens on several other cameras, worked perfectly. I sent the camera back and they were very nice about it and took it back no questions asked. I did not, however, like the fact I didn't get next day delivery at no charge. It took about 4 days for the entire transaction, and I missed a few night lacrosse games. Maybe there is something to be said for buying from a local camera shop. But, all in all I am happy. The 80-200 works perfectly on the new camera. The D750 doesn't have the build quality that the D200 has. Nor does it have as many dedicated buttons but the image quality is great. I am taking pics under stadium lights at high ISO that I would never have been able to take before. I am looking forward to this football season under the lights.

I'm in the same position except I have a D300. The 810 is more camera than I'll ever need. Besides it's just to heavy to schlep around. My choice is the D750. It is one of the best cameras nikon has made. How many megapixels do you really need?

Don't you think you will miss the feel of that D300 and the way it has the dedicated buttons for a lot of the settings? I think I will like the U1 and U2 settings though.

Dexter, you might want to compare the specs of the 7200 side by side with the 750. You don't say what sports you shoot but sticking with the DX format will allow you to keep the reach you are accustomed to. I have a 610 and just ordered the 7200 as I missed having the extra reach with my 70-200 for football and lacrosse when I moved from DX. I'm keeping the 610 though for other work/venues. ;)

I will be curious as to how you like your 7200 when you get it. I was hoping it would be a bit more of an upgrade than it is. Football and lacrosse are two of the sports that I shoot the most. Getting ready for lacrosse soon which is why I purchased the Tamron 150-600. I think it will work great for lacrosse and give me that added reach that I will lose by going full frame. I will have to stick with my 80-200 for nighttime football. But with the extra MP, hopefully I can crop a little tighter.

To me it would be absolutely worth the money, IMHO, the D 750 is one (maybe the) of the best cameras that Nikon has ever made!

Thanks for the quick response. That's one vote for the D750. Have you tried both?

The time has come to purchase a new camera. I have been using my D200 for years and works well in most cases, but taking pictures of my boy's basketball games this winter, I can see it is time to upgrade. Anything with an ISO of 800 or above gets too grainy for my liking. I am tired of waiting for the D400 and the new 7200 isn't enough of an improvement. I can buy a used D610 from B&H for $500-800 less than a used D750. My main hobby is shooting all types of sports. Some of them under the lights on Friday nights and some of them inside a poorly lit gym. I know that the D750 has a better focusing system and better ISO performance. In your opinion is worth the extra money? I want to get the best I can afford, but I am not one to waste money. Would love to here from someone that has tried both. By the way, all my lenses are FX lenses, as I knew this day would probably come. Thanks for any input.

Remember black friday is right around the corner. I'm seeing a bunch of killer prices already. You may want to consider a Nikon refurbed 750 or 810 from Nikon. Just a thought ...

Did you ever compare the 750 with the 810 before you decided on the 810? If so, what made you go with the 750?

I like it very, very much! I'm still learning with it. Only had it about 2 wks or so. Hard to tell if I like it more than my DF yet. Suppose time will tell. One thing I'll tell you about it is that it's a "Ferrari" in every respect! Everything about it is a 10+ in my opinion! If you haven't bought it yet, I'd strongly consider it, it's a rock star!

That is a pretty good endorsement. It seems like it would be the right camera for me. I bounce back and forth between it and the 810. I think the 810 would be a bit overkill for me. Like I said, I have been waiting for the replacement for the D300, but I dont think it is ever going to happen. I think I will ask Santa for a 750

No worries with the tripod. If you can hang your gear bag or a plastic jug from milk filled with water hung from the ball head you should be good to go with no vibration. I've been doing that for many years but really focus on doing it now that I have a couple long lenses that need more stability. No more blur.

We have a full moon coming up this Friday, I believe. I will give it a try. I notice you have the D750. How do you like it?

Just is a few more I just love.

Beautiful. What camera are you using? What was your focal length? I was surprised at how nice and shallow the depth of field was. As seen in your photos, the image just jumps out at you? I am having a lot of fun with this. Last night I even tried a moon shot. Not great, but not bad either. One thing I noticed. What I thought was a decent tripod is not so decent. When you have that baby extended out all the way to 600mm, you can't even breath on that camera without it shaking. Hence the small amount of blur in the moon photo.

Very nice shots with the Tamron 150-600. If you can afford it, try the Canon 6D camera. This camera and the Tamron lens make a great combination.

Thanks. I have seen your shots and nobody can deny that is a great combination. In fact, Tamron should give you a commission, your posts are a big reason why I bought this lens. I am sure I am not the only one either. Unfortunately, everything I have is Nikon or I would seriously consider a Canon. I am getting a little frustrated waiting for a D400 that will never arrive.

Mine just came too. Waited since early July. Worth it!

I called the local camera shop and asked when they might have one in. They told me about a week, so I jumped on it. They charged my credit card immediately, but then I had to wait for a couple of months before it came in. I thought about cancelling (glad I didn't) but when I looked at the invoice it showed that it was a special order and there was no returns on special orders. Live and learn.

After waiting a little better than two months, I received my Tamron last Friday and got to try it out the next day for my son's last football game. There wasn't much sun in the morning, so trying to keep the shutter speed up on my old D200 without going above an ISO of 800 was a struggle. On the plus side, it was great being able to stand in one end zone and have enough reach to get shots all the way to the other end of the field. I took some more shots when I had better lighting and they appear pretty sharp. I think it is going to be a good lens under the right conditions. I don't think it will be as sharp as my old 80-200 2.8, but the extra reach is going to make up for it. Now, if I could just break down and buy a new camera. I am having a hard time parting with the old 200.

Quite frankly they are as as simple as ever. Just switch to full manual and throw away the book.

I was thinking about what you said here. I shoot most of my photos in manual. What features am I bypassing by doing this? Is it strictly exposure, ISO and shutter speed? Or are there more features that are hidden in Nikon's shooting banks that are being bypassed?

Yes, exactly. I get kind of choked up when I look at it. Maybe cause I have another birthday coming up. Like I said, seems like yesterday that was me standing there. Only problem is, I would have probably struck out.
