Reading manuals on smartphones and tablets is the future. Most of the younger generation don't even want the clutter of hard copy manuals. They prefer manuals that are highly portable, searchable, and can be neatly organized on their electronic devices into virtual folders; the hard copy manuals end up either left sitting in the box untouched or shoved in the back of some drawer to be forgotten.

A few years ago I also wanted printed manuals for all of my gadgets. Now, not so much. They are too easily misplaced.

I prefer manuals. I am very technical (build and maintain computers). I refuse to have a smart phone. I do not want to be "connected" when I am out. Besides, you can hardly see the screen in the sunlight. I also refuse to have a camera that does not have a viewfinder. Yes, you can call me "old"............ I do have a cell phone for emergency use. I have texting blocked on it. If people wish to contact me, they can call me, leave a message or email me.

If you are installing the new Luminar AI, get ready for some major headaches.
The download for me was long but installed ok.
The major headache was that it asked me to sign in to use the new software, which is ludicrous, since I had already signed in to download the piece of C...p.
It put it into the PS plugins ok, but when you try to use it, it asks for you to sign in. It would not take my password and instructed me to reset it. This is where the bottle of Tylenol will be helpful. I spent a half hour or more trying to reset the dang thing. Finally, I guess it got tired of me swearing at it and it finally worked.

Major headache. I hope the new AI is worth the pain in the butt.

I first installed on a windows 10 PC...no problems. I then removed it because it no longer is a plugin for PS Elements like Luminar 4 is. I then installed it on my iMac (High Sierra) ..again no problems. I use Photos with Luminar and Affinity as plugins.

Is there any recommendation for a workable GPS for the Nikon D810? Will like to GO tag my images as I shoot.

Thanks

If anyone is interested, I have Dawn di-GPS PS10-M available. I used it for years on a P7700 and P7800. It worked very well. It will work on the following Nikons. Support Nikon Z5, Z6, Z7, Df, D610, D600, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000 and Coolpix P7700/P7800.
I no longer have those cameras and do not need it anymore. It is currently available on there site for ~$150.
If interested PM me and make an offer.....I am very reasonable.

I am in the process of moving Aperture to Luminar. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is this a good move? Pros, Cons? Any way to keep Aperture? I have it on an external hard drive.
Thanks

I am using Apple Photos. I was able to import my Aperture library and use Luminar as a plugin. It works great. I also use Affinity as a plugin.

I've been using a mid 2012 Macbook Pro for photo editing but it's too slow. I've been thinking, due to budget reasons, of an older iMac. Maybe a Apple iMac 21.5" i5 8GB 1TB (Late 2015) Mk442ll/a model for around $600. Looking for suggestions and input from the Hoggers!

I have mid 2011 21.5" quad core i5 iMac. I upgraded the hard drive to SSD. It currently has 8g memory. It can be upgraded to 32g (my next step). I run Affinity, PS Elements, and Luminar. I works very well. The SSD
made a huge improvement. I also use Apple Photo with Affinity and Luminar plugins. Very pleased. Don't laugh, I also still use Aperture. I know I can't upgrade from High Sierra, but I do not care.....my adage is

Does anyone know how to setup an email to be verified. Every time I try to email an image it comes up email not validated.

Slightly off the Lightroom subject....I use Nikon View NXi for cataloging, organizing, etc.
It lets me email effortlessly with Thunderbird. It also lets you choose the file size.
I tried PS Elements, but it seems to work only with Outlook, which I won't use.

Apart from the most widely-known Photoshop plugs (NIK, On1, Luminar, Topaz, etc.) what are your favorite lesser-known Photoshop plugins, and why?

Aside from NIK and Luminar, I regularly use PTLens. I photograph my wife's quilts (keeps everything straight).

I just acquired this from a friend. Lens clear, shutter speeds appear to work, etc.
Ordered a battery and some 120 B&W film to try.
Something to play with during this time of concern.

I have owned several Canon Elph cameras starting with the film version. All were solid, capable and a bit expensive for a pocket camera. I recently needed another. I found them at Walmart of all places. They were not expensive at all and seemed cheap in construction. I did buy one, it was defective, inoperable in fact.
I returned it of course. I think the model number was maybe 185 but I may not have that correct. The price was just over $100. Has this nice line of cameras gone down the tube?

I am considering buying a used one dating from a better day. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any input

I have a Nikon D300 and have been having trouble downloading RAW photos for editing. Recently found out - maybe through discussions on UglyHedgehog - that iMacs allow one to upload RAW photos through their own Photos application, the one that comes with Apple Macs. Easy to use and seems to work. Will compare it to Lightroom to see if it works as well and is as easy to use.

I now use Apple Photos. I like it because I can use plug-ins and extensions for editing seamlessly.
I use Affinity Photo for RAW and others, Luminar 4, Nik software, Photo Lemur, and PTLens ALL from within Photos. I shoot mostly landscape and do not need a lot of PP. Also do not need #@$% subscriptions.

I have had nothing but problems with this program.
I finally was able to download the software and they sent me an activation code. I even copied the code and when i entered it and my email address they would not accept it.
They have the worst customer service; so i sent them an email, and now i wait for an answer.
Is anyone else having problems with this program?

I am a 1st time user of Luminar 4. I downloaded on my iMac. It works perfectly, including the plugins.
I am running High Sierra. Very pleased with it.

Does anyone use the Nikon photo hosting program, View NX-!, to transfer images from camera to computer? I have downloaded the program and can get the images to appear but when I try to download them to my computer Nikon's program blocks access, saying I need to be an administrator to do that function. I have sent two inquires to Nikon USA asking for help and have received absolutely nothing helpful from them. If anyone uses ViewNX-1 can advise me as to how to download the images to my computer I would be very grateful. I do not want to use any other program if at all possible.

I very much like Nikon View NX-i and Transfer2. I use Transfer 2 to upload my CF/SD cards to computer. It allows me to select destination folder and choose the format of the date images were taken. I do not plug the camera into the computer. My computer has a built in multi-card reader that I received from B&H.

I am looking for a way to import photos from memory card in this format (yyyy_mo_da). I have been doing this for years first with Canon software and then with Nikon Transfer. I then append subject matter after the date. I now have both Nikon and Sony cameras. Nikon won't import Sony and vice versa for RAW. I tried Adobe Bridge, but my option there is (yyymoda)...no underscores. I am looking for suggestions. I have too many photos/folders to change the way I catalog.
