Nice sunsets, Wullie. Are you or were you an AO? BTW, you know there are only 2 kinds of boats...submarines and targets. :D

I am considering changing my Olympus CSC cameras and lenses for a good Bridge Camera such as the Lumix FZ200.
Do any UHH members have experience with this camera, it has enough zoom for my photography but the constant F 2.8 aperture would be a real bonus to me.
I have looked at the Canon SX50 but I've homed into the FZ200.
Thanks, John

Hi John, I just went through what you're going through. I spent a month evaluating bridge cameras and weaned it down to the FZ200 and SX50. Tough decision, but ended up ordering the FZ which will arrive next week.

Let's hope that's the last of it...snow, ice, sub-zero temps, etc.

Any comment on the Panasonic Lumix FZ200

Just ordered one. Do a search on the FZ200...there are lots of users here. And welcome.

I see the members photos when posting. In general, the seem predominantly male, 40 ish or older and support facial hair. Also seems to be accompanied with either a quizzical look or a big grin. Just saying ! is this a true reflection of the enthusiast photographer population at large?
No agenda on this - just curious.

Male, past 40..50..60..70 and counting, lots of hair on top but no facial stuff, lots of grins and giggles, and I can spell "it" as well.

Larry...I'm an ex-Detroiter since 1991 but spent 43 years there. I'm back frequently on business and to see family. One of these days when I figure out what I'm doing the camera maybe we can get together.

Thanks for your response.

Gene

Great...let me know.

Thanks to all the great information from the UHH community, my thoughts of just getting an SX50 HS was sidetracked. Reading everyones thoughts comparing the three camera's it came down to: SX50 HS, FZ70 and FZ200, the one thing the comments that hit home were the ones that suggested holding the cameras for comfort. I found the SX50 a bit small for my hand while the FZ200 seemed to have more space to grip..although it is a bit larger. OK. So I won't have a 1200mm zoom. I'll get closer to the subject--unless its the moon and that could be problematic. I'm not a bird watcher unless its in my backyard and I wont need 1200 for that! Grandkids, travel, family, usual stuff. Probably will experiment with landscapes or other things as I see fit. The good news is that the cot isn't breaking the bank and this will give me what I believe is a wonderful learning tool.
Anyway, thanks for all the reading pleasure. You folks know your stuff. I weighed things out as carefully as I could and pulled the trigger. Camera is coming next week so be ready to see some pretty awful stuff for critique. As a relative newbie to digital (I have vast experience with p&S and phones!) I'm looking forward to making myself a better photographer with the help of the UHH'ers.
Thanks to all the great information from the UHH c... (show quote)

Gene, I just went through the same agony you have. And I just ordered my FZ200 which should arrive next week. Guess we'll be learning this new camera together yet 300 miles apart.

I really like the Panasonic FZ200 over the SX50, because frankly the SX50 EVF is very lacking and unnatural to my eye.

The resolution of the EVF was high on my list.

My apologies for addressing you as "Grampy" in my initial post--I can appreciate that your granddaughter has exclusive rights on that name!

No problem about the name. I threw it in there when I registered because the system wouldn't accept my real name and I couldn't think of anything else at the time.

Thanks to all for their suggestions. What I find interesting is that in my initial post, I did state that my decision was made...I've ordered the FX200. Now the wait....

FZ200 is quite nice, take a look at Fuji X-S1 I think it is one step up, but little larger and much better image quality.

Thanks, Alois. I did seriously consider the X-S1. Don't rememer why I eliminated it from my list.

The new Olympus Stylus 1 is a great little camera. Constant f2.8 throughout also.

OK, but at that price, I could get both the FZ200 and the SX50.
