The big brown truck delivered my new Nikon 105 2.8g VR Macro lens yesterday...

I immediately put on new D7200 and went outside...

My first attempt at Macro, all handheld and shot at high ISO's (for me)
1) ISO 1000
2) ISO 900
3) ISO 800
All at f18 @ 160/th

I like this !!! ;-)

I'm so darn reluctant to use E-bay, so I'll have to tailor my wants to be under $3000. Plus, for a few hundred or so, Id rather buy new and be secure with my purchase.

I prefer a zoom to essentially carry not more than two lenses on my jaunts.

We're going to be getting into birding, we have some very good Audubon sites close enough. My lack of experience is making me lean toward the 70-200 2.8, but the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED Lens has been recommended as a good bang for the buck and may fill my needs. Too confusing for a new guy. I'm trying to do something before returning to Yellowstone the end of September for probably our last big hiking trip. Contingent upon recuperating from neck surgery shortly. Anyway, I want to be ready! Thanks, again.

Hi Dave,
The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED with a Nikon TC 14eII converter is pretty hard to beat .... Both pieces new... for under $2,000.
I have attached a couple of shots for you to check out....

Thanks to all. There are few negatives comments about the 1.4; and the 5% sharpness reduction of the 1.4 compared to 17% of the 1.7 is significant. I am convinced that I won't regret investing in the Nikon TC 1.4.

I use the Nikon TC1.4ell on a fine tuned (AF ) Nikon 300 f4...
Hard to beat this combo...

Also have used it on 70-200 2.8 with great results ! No regrets

For the most part anything that has "pro" on it is not much good. Why not take them out and do some testing and see if they hurt your image. For some shots the Polarizer may work for you. If it softens your image it may be more to your liking than "tack sharp". Dave

B+W 77mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC nano Filter... ?
