University of Southampton (UK) has been working on a new minidisk storage medium made of Quartz. The disk is about the size of a 50 cent piece, and will store 320 Terabytes of memory. Because of the quartz composition, data can survive for around 14,000 years.
Someone is sure to bring this tech to the photographic world as soon as it's perfected.

Yongnuo 603N. They are Transceivers so they are universal. I have 6 of them to control up to 5 external flashes, very dependable and they use very economical AAA batteries.

Have to agree with Shooter, I use the Yongnuo 603C II with my Canon, and I have never had a problem.Been using them for over a year. The 603C II is the second generation, and it has the wheel lock, keeps the trigger from sliding off.

I am a Nikon guy but my daughter is happy with her Canon T3. I want to surprise her with a new Canon for Christmas but know little about Canon. In comparisons on-line the direct replacement for her T3 is the T5 but there is also a model SL 1 with similar pricing. If a Hog has either one of these (or both even better) cameras I would appreciate a reply with your opinions. And while I can think of a million reasons to upgrade to the more expensive models, the funding just isn't there. Thank you. Kevin

Hey Kevin, The direct replacement for the T3 is the T5, it's basically the T3i without the articulated screen. shoots more FPS, and has more megapixles than the T3 (12 compared 18). Both use the same image processor(digic 4), and all the lenses she has will fit. Will set you back about $270. Now if you really want to upgrade the T5i is about $650 and the T6i about $750. Those prices are for Body only. If she's a good girl and showed a real talent, the 7DmkII (my next one) would fit right.

Before you lay down your money for the L16 let me pass along some sage advice. Never be the first to own new technology or the last. From what I see and hear this is a work in progress.
But none the less interesting.

I hear ya about the new technology. Always wait a year or 2 before you buy. Kinda like the new Elio 3-wheeler, think I'll wait till it's been out for a while.

Oh yeah, been there done that.

Worst part is, the worst person that I ever had to deal with taking forever "primping" to get ready for the picture, was a male executive. Once he got in front of the camera, he only wanted me to take 2 photos, because he was too busy for all this stuff. (after waiting over 1/2 hour for him to get his hair just right)

Had to grin about the primping exec.
Made me think about Donald Trump! LOL!

The high contrast lighting makes it feel "moody"
Very appropriate for a teenage girl, don't ya think? :-)

nice use of Rembrandt lighting. I would just like to see a touch of kicker or use of a reflector so her hair doesn't completely disappear into the background.

not trying to pick on you. That is a personal opinion. Everyone has their own style, and I like it that way. If we all had the same style, life would be boring.

I hear ya, should have used a hair/rim light. The pictures were a last minute thing, didn't have time to set everything up. They took their time getting dressed and make-up, then it was,"take our picture & hurry up, our ride is here." Just getting the 3 of them to hold still was like pulling teeth. LOL

The skin tones I can change. There was not much I could do about the nose... It is that pointy.

You could diffuse the light a little, and maybe put a reflector so it fills in a little under the nose and under her chin.
You got the eyes right. Nice set. Pretty young Lady.

maybe iso, how many of us stick to base iso when we can have a fair degree of latitude these days.

How many different rolls of film would you have to carry to get the range of iso/asa offered by most digital cameras today?

I'm glad I got to learn with film, but the darkroom has got a lot easier and there's no damn developer fumes.
