If you're into planes or space , the Virginia Air & Space Museum in Hampton should be of interest. Their website is
http://www.vasc.org/. Beautiful area. Lots of scenic areas to shoot with water & birds.

I just googled things to do and seen the museum! looks interesting, thanks for the suggestion

my wife and I are going to Virginia in 3 weeks. I was wondering if anyone could give suggestions about things to do while we are there.
We will spend a week in Williamsburg, VA then a week in Virginia beach. at this time we have no plans but to meet up with one of my high school buddies in moyuk, NC. so we have lots of time.

All great advice. but I sure most did not start out with a high end camera. I have worked my way up over the years to a 7D. but I started with 10D with a 100-400mm lens. the bodies came and went but the 100-400mm is still with me.
I believe if you get a good body with a better lens and learn how to use them properly you can get some amazing results.
My backup camera is a rebel 2Ti. it don't have as many features, or fps, but its still 18mp without knowing you can't tell the difference from my 7d

taken with 30d and 100-400mm lens

Great pix. Thanx for posting. I've lived up here since 1951, and I never tire of looking at our beautiful scenery and amazing wildlife. My wife and I are thinking about going to Seward for a glacier cruise ourselves. That was a good one of the pink salmon jumping. Glad you had a good cruise and your wife's family got to enjoy it in person.

Thank you Greg! you should go on one! we cant let the tourist have all the fun. we normally go on a cruise every year. earlier in the year you have a better chance of seeing whales. an sometimes if you watch online they will run a 2 for 1 sale in the winter, you have to buy them in the winter but you can sail in the summer. who knows we might bump into each other!

Jim, those are great shots! I guess we couldn't drive to Standline Lake , here I thought it was a new place for Ed and I to visit before we leave. Really enjoyed your pictures.

No, its not someplace you can drive to. its about a 45 min. flight in the beaver. Maybe you could do a flight seeing trip before you leave. Mark said they have been talking about doing some photo safaris. I don't know what that would cost! If you do ask for Mark to take you he will get take care of you
