yesterday I a friend asked me if I wanted to fly along with him to Strandline Lake to try to find his wedding ring he lost on a previous trip. its a glacier lake but the water has drained out. but when he was there last time the water was a couple hundred feet higher then it was yesterday not somewhere that is normally landed at.
with a metal detector and our cameras we fly out to find a needle in a haystack. we didn't find the ring, but had a great time climbing around and taking pictures.
the images dont capture the size of the ice chunks, some photos Mark is in to give some perspective for size.
you can search the web about the lake, its pretty cool
Excellent set of photo's , has to be the most interesting I've ever saw posted.
Thanks for sharing them, some awesome shots to say the very least .

thanks Pete! it's still hard for me to imagine that much water flowing out in a few days and leaving the icebergs scattered like that.
What one might call a major water leak.

Very cool photos. Love the color in the ice. But I gotta ask: "Did he find his ring?" She must have been mightily upset with him to get him to fly out there and try to find a tiny ring in that huge landscape.
Stunning images! Super that you could have a human as scale for us to wrap our heads around the size :)

Erich, this is Marks job, it would be like us getting in the car and driving to the lake. He works for an air taxi service / flight seeing service.
He had a group to pick up at a remote lodge and the lake was kind of on the way, so we left early so we left early so we had about 3 hours to look around.
And no he didn't find the ring

Thanks Linda, trying show the scale of things in Alaska is always a challenge. I have seen thousands of amazing images of Alaska, none captured it like being there.

Jim, those are great shots! I guess we couldn't drive to Standline Lake , here I thought it was a new place for Ed and I to visit before we leave. Really enjoyed your pictures.

No, its not someplace you can drive to. its about a 45 min. flight in the beaver. Maybe you could do a flight seeing trip before you leave. Mark said they have been talking about doing some photo safaris. I don't know what that would cost! If you do ask for Mark to take you he will get take care of you
