For tack sharp images from foreground to background, focus stacking will be used and can only be accomplished by using a tripod.

From what I hear, RAW S is basically JPEG on steroids. It is not a true RAW but has a bit more than JPEG.

If the flash is your only illumination or overpowers the ambient light, it won't help, but you might as well leave it on because it won't hurt either. If you are using lower shutter speeds to get some ambient light exposure in the background, it could help.

Like John said, if the flash is your main light, such as in a studio, VR is not needed. If you are shooting where you are mixing ambient with flash, you will probably want to use VR especially if your shutter speed is lower than your focal length to prevent camera shake.

The 7200 seems to handle the noise very well. You will actually see more noise on an image when posted on the web than you would if it were to be printed. The printing actually smoothes out the noise a bit. Doing a little finishing work to the shots such as cropping out what is not needed a little straightening and a little post processing of the noise will give them a finished, professional look.

With a 50mm on full frame at f/1.4 from two feet away, your depth of field is less than 1/2 of an inch. I would think you would have to shoot that on a macro rail on a tripod to get the shot. As you move farther away, your DOF will increase. You really want to make sure you are in continuos single point focus and not on any of the auto or dynamic focus modes to ensure you have control on where you are focusing. It is definitely has a learning curve, but it is a great lens once you understand it. Don't give up yet.

You will lose one stop of light when using a 1.4x tele so your 70-200 f/4 will become a 105-280 f/5.6 lens. This combination on a full frame sensor should work fine but on crop sensors, in my opinion, I feel that the degradation in image quality isn't worth it.

Very well done. I like it a lot.

Beefier feel, not fell, my bad. Just saying that it feels heavier, thicker, more solid.

Both are very capable. The 810 gives you higher resolution, beefier fell, and larger view screen. The 750 gives you slightly better focus capabilities when it is dark (-3ev vs -2ev), more frames per second (6.5 vs 5), and better noise control.

It was never answered as to which focusing mode you were in, but I do truly believe that is your culprit. Here are two examples that I shot. One is shot with AF-C Single Point, and the other is shot with the factory default of AF-S Auto. Both were aimed at the center of the flower, but you will notice a difference in what is in focus.

Are you using AF-S, AF-C, or Auto. Also, if you are in AF-C, what focus mode are you in? Single point, dynamic 9 point, 21 point, 39 point, or 3-D? All of these will make a huge difference. Other things to pay attention to, especially when shooting close-ups of flowers, is what is the minimum focus distance of the lens you are using? With cameras and lenses being massed produced, you may need to use the auto-focus fine tuning feature to dial in your lens/ body combination.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was hoping for some unbiased responses and appreciate your thoughts. The wife and kids get tired of looking at my work and tend tell me things I want to hear and not what I need to hear.

I was taking portrait shots of football players using a three light set up. On this shot, my front flash misfired and left me with this image. I found it to be interesting but wanted to get thoughts from others.

The display will show which focus point was used to acquire focus, not what you are focused on. If you focus and recompose, the camera is not smart enough to know how much you moved the camera off of your subject. All it knows is that you used a certain focus point to acquire focus. Instead of focus/ recompose, why don't you use one of the other 39 focus points provided, that way you don't have to recompose.

Topaz Denoise and DXO Pro Optics both work very well but are very slow. If you are doing just one image for a poster, they work fine, but if you are thinking of using it in your workflow with sports shooting, you will be disappointed. The noise suppression in LR5 and ACR work well enough. It just comes down to finding a balance between sharpening, masking, and luminance noise reduction.
