I second the advice that Jose Rodriquez gives on his YouTube videos regarding refilling cartridges. I learned a lot just from watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ds30QGVhS4
Just a 5 minute spot that is loaded with useful information on refilling.

Yes, José has a passion and much knowledge for refilling carts (and saving money). I started successfully refilling my Epson R-1400 with inks from Precision Colors following his instructions. Unfortunately, I am unable to refill my new Epson XP-15000 because I operate on a mac and the software to disconnect the printer firmware only runs on Windows. Hopefully, I can find a work-around soon (Parallels, others ?).

Get the cleaning kit from Amazon, take strong paper towels make a pad about 4" X 1"and about 1/4' thick. Turn the printer on, and when the printing head comes to about the mid point, pull the plug to stop it. soak the pad you made with the fluid, and slide it under the print head, leave it for 5 or 6 hours then remove the pad, it will be loaded with old ink from the head. plug it in and try a test, it should be ok, if not re do the cleaning, though usually the first attempt will clear it.

I have used this head cleaning process 4-5 times now on two Epson printers (R-1400 and X-15000). You don't need the Amazon cleaning kit - use Windex with Ammonia. Just fold the paper towels to sit on the ink platen surface and pull the print head over the towel and when finished as above, run a nozzle check. If there are still any blotches or missing sections of the print-out, run a cleaning cycle on the printer and it should clear up. Incidentally, the "guru" for printer (José Rodriguez) has a Facebook home and YouTube channel that you can visit and see MANY videos organized in Playlists. One cannot fail to learn lots of printer stuff there.

Just like any power tool, you have to learn how to use. In the hands of a craftsman, can work wonders. In the hands of a novice, can be disastrous. YMMV.

Could not be stated more clearly. I ruined several fine pieces of lumber en route to learning how to use a router and router table (at least with ON1, you are unlikely to lose a finger while learning ......)

[quote=Ysarex]It is partially non-destructive. ON1 has a problem in that regard.

We use the term non-destructive in two distinct ways:

I see your point, thanks. A lot of the edit functions/steps are non-destructive, but I guess one would have to do these multi step occasional edits in different layers, which could then be individually deleted or changed. I have not run across these very often, so haven't had this problem.

This is a terrific time to buy ON1 !! I believe the 2023 version (out this month) will prove to be a huge leap in work process with the AI features - leading the industry, I think. I have found so many ways to be creative with their presets, filters, etc. - all of which are non-destructive and adjustable, but provide lots of ideas and new thoughts for me. Go for it - you will be well pleased.

Incidentally, Scott Davenport has a 20% discount on his site - I bought my upgrade using Honey coupons and saved more than that.

[quote=jerryc41]I've been using Nikon's NX Studio. It's free, and it processes NEF files. Otherwise, see below. I would give serious consideration to free software. Otherwise, you'll be paying $100 a year to get their "major improvements." I'm still using Lightroom 6 from 2015, and it works as well now as it did then. The new version is by subscription, and you get continual updates for $9.99/month.

Jerry: as we have posted earlier, you should know now that you can buy a version of On1 Photo Raw once and use it forever without paying any further $$$ like you describe above with your 2016 LR 6 - no subscription or update fees needed. If you ever decide that you really want some or all of the advanced features built up in the intervening years, then just buy the current updated version for one price and again use it forever...... That's where I was when i started into On1 from LR several years ago (and never looked back).

Guess On1 really isn't the solution against subscription software .... Surprise, Surprise

Not what I understand (and have been doing for some years). On1 one-time purchasers get the full current ON1 program package with current upgraded modules (great improvements in the last couple years and seem to be accelerating with AI capability options). A program purchase entitles purchaser to at least one upgrade during the current purchase year (usually around mid-year). This program can be used indefinitely without a requirement to buy new versions - it is not a subscription requiring annual purchase or monthly amounts. Users can choose to upgrade whenever they want the latest/greatest gadgets or just continue to use the original purchase. They are now also offering plug-in modules of some of the nifty Effects modules for folks who want to use them with other programs.

ON1 is stepping into the subscription world as an option - not a replacement for one-time, use forever version. (Of course, they may at some future point migrate to subscription only, but users still have their last bought version and prefer to stay there).

Ok, have you been reading Cany143? Or do circular slide rules really exist?

Come to think about it, that should make it easy to work beyond the normal 3 digit accuracy of of a standard linear slide rule.

Cany143 ??? Google thinks THAT doesn't exist !

Yup, had a circular slide rule in the late 50's. Can't find it in the basement with my other slide rules now....

So, is flash needed for this, or not ? :-)

I would definitely up your shutter speed and lower your aperture to around F4 for more dof.

? To increase depth of field (DOF) you must INCREASE aperture (toward f11, f16) ?

I would like LR much better if it was just a regular program - open a file, process it, save it. Why "Import" and "Export"? I like to put pictures where I want them using Windows. I don't like LR requiring me to move them through that. As a result, all my imports have "?" next to them until I delete those folders. I shouldn't have to follow two sets of rules to move files on my computer. As for the Catalog? I've never done anything with it. I don't need it, and I don't want it.

Jerry: these are just a few of the many reasons I moved to ON1 Photo Raw from LR several years ago. ON1 uses my own folders/locations in my own organization. The only Exporting I have to do is when I want to create a file for sending to someone or to another app (such as Qimage One for printing or to an outside printing house, etc.)

Fran: if the "uploads" to desktop look flat and muddy, that sounds almost like you uploaded an unprocessed RAW file that does not "contain" the post processing elements.
