These were all at 8 minutes in a daylight studio. While the idea was not for the subject to sit still some managed to do a pretty good job.

I really like 3. Reminds me a bit of the splash screen for Adobe CC for Photographers.

Serge Remelli is a great resource. I get his feed almost daily. Sometimes there is too much sales pitch--something I emailed him about--but his weekly tutorials are uniformly informative. His site is photoserge.com

I am curious. I am wondering if it's possible to do a long exposure shot of a person. I am thinking of those live mannequins they sometimes have in clothing stores. Is it possible for a human to remain perfectly still for 30 .. 40 .. 60 seconds? Do you have a shot like this that you would like to share? Please do.

If you post a shot, please list your settings. Feel free to try it and post.

Other than the challenge--and perhaps uniqueness or curiosity--why would you do it? Is there some effect you'd be trying to achieve?

A few years ago I bought a gray market Nikon D40. I knew it was gray market at time of purchase, but the price was so low, I was willing to take the risk that comes with gray market purchases. So far, no problems with the camera. Unlike some photographers, I don't abuse my equipment. When it eventually dies, I'll just toss it without regrets. It has served me well. At this point, it's not really worth sending a D40 out for repair anyway.

And that's pretty much the only realistic attitude. The quality of the grey market product is normally good but if it goes toes up, you have to be willing to treat it pretty much as a throw away. How much risk is a buyer willing to accept? Buying grey isn't dumb or misinformed, but a personal call based on buyer's perception/understanding of the odds.

I think there are two salient points I take away. First, Nikon won't repair a grey market item in the US, regadless of where was purchased. Second, Nikon won't supply parts to most repair facilities. So repair is problematic, to say the least.

This is about risk management and pain tolerance. I'll buy refurb, but only from reputable dealers (B&H, Adorama, Roberts, KEH, etc--not 42nd Street) with the right kind of warranties

I'll try this again. YNP is big--very big. Traffic is slow, with speed limits of 45 mph tops and as low as 25 mph in lots of places. There is considerable traffic, wildlife on the road and visitors--photographers!!--stopped by the side of the road to view/photograph the wildlife and other sites. We stayed at the Yellowstone Lake Hotel when we were there at the end of May last year, and found the road between Canyon and Tower Junction was still under 10+ feet of snow, so the road was closed. There was work ongoing on the road between Canyon and Norris, so there were delays. Getting to the wildlife-rich Lamar Valley took about two hours, if I remember correctly. In short, even when we had the best of conditions, it took a lot longer than we imagined to get from point A to point B. I'd go again in an absolute heartbeat, but I'll be better prepared for the transit time.

West Thumb Basin, Lake Yellowstone and Fishing Bridge were great for sunrise shots.

You'll love it and with patience, have a wonderful time.

Check all the entry points for Yellowstone.... NOW would be good.

Three times in the past few years, I have visited Yellowstone with two of those times finding at least one entrance/exit I wanted to use closed for some sort of highway or bridge repair. You can't believe how long it takes to use the highways around the outside of Yellowstone to get from one side of the park to another side of the park.

I lost over half a day on one such go back and around. In that case, I had to backtrack about 50 miles before going around since the posted close was fairly close to the park entrance.

Can't speak to the same potential problems at the Tetons.

My photography group and I need your help again. ..... Love to hear your ideas. Thank you in advance.

Two suggestions. First, get in touch with MT Shooter here on UHH. He's a well-respected Hog and owns Carter's Camera Cottage in Billings and does lots of tours and workshops in YNP. He's a great source of top drawer information. Second, I bought two books before my brother and I went last year and it was a very good move. One--the better of the two--was Photographing Yellowstone National Park: Where to Find Perfect Shots and How to Take Them (The Photographer's Guide) by Gustav Verderber. The other--good but not as good as the first--was Photographer's Guide to Yellowstone and the Tetons by Joseph Lange. Both are available on amazon, total for both is a bit over $20.00.

Have a great trip. Lots to shoot.

After much discussion, only in my head and no one elses, I have decided to quit my chemo sessions. After ten years it is destroying my body and my heart, and for that fact, maybe even my brain, as some would think!! I am just so tired of all the sickness that comes with it. I tried, but this session of chemo is triple hard on me compared to previous sessions. I don't want to spend the rest of my days dead sick, in the hospital day in and day out.

So yesterday, I celebrated and went for a drive, camera's in tow, and had a great day. Discovered several more barns to photograph for the barn lovers, along with other interesting shots. I will post one or two at a time, so I don't overload your minds with my junk..........Hope you enjoy them as much as I did getting back out and taking them. Richard (harclod)

My dear wife went through chemo and said "To kill the cancer cells, they need to kill me." It takes courage to face the fear of the unknown. You are in my prayers.

Too bad I bought Manfrotto last year and I just received an Opteka Tomahawk Grip Action Head. My total was a lot more than yours is going for.

Yours looks like it has a mounting plate to put tripod legs on.

No way to add additional legs.

Could not tell from picture on B & H does the head have a level?

It does not. Because of the dynamics of the monopod and how it's used, I'm not sure a level would be as useful as it would on a tripod.

Another GAS attack purchase. Something I thought I just had to have. Well, not so much. Nice product--the 4 section aluminum monopod is less than 2 lbs and collapses to 20". It's sturdy enough to use as a walking stick and works great with the head.

New on B&H the monopod is $89.88 and the head is 49.88 for a total of $139 and change.

Yours for $75.00 and I'll pay shipping in the US.
