Fantastic shot, Riverlass! I love it! It's amazing to me how 'tame' the wild turkeys are in other parts of the country. They're so illusive here and only seen in wooded areas.

Thanks Dixiegirl. These wild turkey seem to think they own the place. Right now they are really being crazy because of the mating season. We do live in the woods, so they arrive everyday and gather at the water hole. We are all pretty use to each other.

Nice shot. These birds would have been pretty colorful. Is there a reason why you removed the color (just preferring B & W would be a valid reason)? Just wondering, that's all, because we rarely see B & W pics in Close up. :-) :-)

Thanks for the comment, Dook. I took the color out because I wanted the lines and shapes of the composition to be the focus of the image. The turkey have very red parts on them, during mating season, to attract the hens. I didn't want that to distract from the form of feathers and the expressions on their faces. In this particular photo I wanted only shapes and forms to emerge.

There was a big, wild, tom turkey fight on my driveway a few days ago. They are going crazy over the hens. These were three of the Toms staring down another Tom. I grabbed my Nikon D5100 and the 18-300 lens and caught them in the stand off.
I also desaturated the image, making it black and white. Then I cropped it, darkened it and sharpened it a little.

Wild Turkey standoff.

Angela... sometimes cropping is the answer to making a so,so photo into an awesome one. I don't know where the second one of the two seagulls started, but cropping it and "framing' it with the bird's feathers made it into a wonderful image. Nice work.

Very nice. I love the feathers of the first image and the "proud bird" image of the last.

All nice... but I really like the third image, the little drain fly. Love its color and the texture of the background.

Yeah, even though the binoculars are backwards.

Yes, but that's what is so wonderful about the photo. It's a kid. He's got that tiny smile and those backwards binoculars put you right into his little charade. It's great.

Great idea for a child photo. He's engaged, having fun and being a kid. Love having a train in front of him. Love the binoculars. Pulls the viewer right in. Very nice.

Well thank you pros for giving me the info I needed. My 50mm 1.4 should be about 80mm with as you said , some compression issues. Now that I have the answer, I ask another, is a Canon 7D a full frame sensor or because it is an EOS, it is a crop sensor. I know that lenses do make a difference on both sensors such as certain lenses are made for full frame camera's. That is a whole different subject
Thank you for the info. I just saved a bunch of money by not buying Canon 85mm L lens.

See... there are no stupid questions.
