I have a Nikon D90 and I'm trying to take a picture of my family with the sunset in the backdrop at the beach. How do you take a picture using flash and without exposing the shot when you have the sun in the background? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
As a followup, when metering the sunset....especially with a telephoto lens, the brilliance of the sun can throw your matrix/evaluative metering out of whack. You might want to "spot" meter the sky excluding the sun. Then enter those numbers manually. If using matrix/evaluative metering, your camera my require a shutter speed that is faster than your cameras sync speed capability.....especially if you want to shoot wide open, blurring the background.
Personally, I rarely use TTL on my nikon flashes. For me, they are "hit and miss" units. I shoot manually all flashes, all of the time.
