I have used both methods. Recently more from camera in photoshop so I can start post right away
Both good cameras go to a shop where you can get a hold of them one will feel right in your hands choose that one

Have you tried creating your slide show then doing the titles afterward and merging them together ?
iMovie should be able to cope or just go to App Store and check for slide show software

Yes that's what I meant. Do you have a PC repair shop near you ? Pop in and ask them?
If you can't get power to the drive it may be worth buying a caddy and taking the drive out of its original case.
