I get what you're saying. I've wondered those ideas as well. For example, now these cacti are taller and they put a wooden fence around them because people were damaging them. Go figure, right? I'm happy to have captured this one. Perfect setting....

I often wonder when I'm taking a landscape photo "Hmm, wonder what this would look like in 1 to hours from now." But for the sake of convenience, I snap the photo as it is then move on and forget all about coming back for the same shot when the sun angle has changed. Maybe sometime I'll learn that one really good shot is worth 100 mediocre ones and expend the extra effort to get the one really good shot.

Your shot is very good but I wonder what it would be like a little later when the sun angle is lower.

focus it not sharp, to me, on the street shot.

Image stabilization has nothing to do with DOF, so would not help in making an image sharper in this case. What is it that you feel a tripod would do to improve your street shot? Looks fine to me.
. . . . also there is no bokeh in either image so am curious why the title of your thread???

I wanted to simulate without a tripod. Not looking for a perfect image, just a comparison. Staying in the same position with 2 different lenses like that would not work because of the wide angel lens. thx for commenting...

Should have been in the same position, same settings and mounted on a tripod for a honest comparison, that is in my humble opinion.

Ok.. I need you guys to judge these 2 shots in terms of sharpness. Both taken with A6300, iso 100, F/8, @ 1/100. Both hand held. I moved closer for the 16mm shot to have a better comparison.
1. Taken with 50mm w/optical steady shot.
2. Take with Sigma 16mm (no optical steady shot).

Trying to determine if optical steady shot matters.

The cactus was @ f/2.0 1/500. The street shot was @ 1/125 f/8.

Trying to get used to my new Sigma f/1.4 lens. This was taken @ f/2.0, hand held. The narrow DOF makes it hard to get it sharp w/o image stabilization, which my A6300 does not have.

The second on is my street. The 16mm gets nice and wide. Have to try this with the tripod.

I need more practice..lol...

How does the tamron compare to the kit sony 55-210 (which I have)? Seems like the 18-200mm would not be worth it to me since I have the kit lens. BTW, that's the lens I used for these geese pics. Did you ever look at the Tamron 16-300mm E mount? That might be a good choice for me.

My wife uses this on her a 6300, also the 18-105 f/4, and the Tamron 18-200. The Sigma is an exceptional lens!

That’s good. Thank you. I have not heard any bad reviews on it. What do you use for a tele?

Yes I have this lens for my Sony A6500 and it is wonderful. Sharp, fast focusing, with great image quality. You will love it. I have not noticed barrel distortion. Any of that is corrected in the lens profile in LR or PS or other photo software.

Just ordered me a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for my Sony A6300. Anyone have experience with this lens?
