I am interested in opinions on a good small "pocket" camera. I have a Nikon DSLR and don't always want to carry it around all the time. I would like to have something to carry with me all the time. I have thought about moving to an iphone but I am a blackberry user and will probably go down with the ship. I have a coolpix s60and I am not crazy about it. Love to hear suggestions
Thanks
I would look at the recently launched Sony pocket cameras plenty of features and good quality. I carry the Nikon P5000 for the same reasons you have specified but a bit dated now. I would also recommend the P7100 but it is a lot heavier than the 5000 but still a superb pocket camera.

Just wondering when you first started out with your hobbie in photography did you do it all for free or did you make alittle money at it? Just curious to know your photography journey :)
Sorry should have said I have never undertaken any photography work for money. I had intended becoming a photographer and was offered an interview but became and electrnic design engineer. The used my camera to record designs and product information.

Hi
My mother was a keen photoghrapher, she processed all her photographs in the room under the stairs. I became very interested in the hobby as with gardening, another of my mothers hobbies. I started with a Kodak 127 and migrated to a Kodak Box Brownie 620 in the 50's. I have lost count of the numbers of cameras (Kodak, Practicas, 5 different Minolta's including my first 10M didital, but size and wieght have become the issue since owning my Nikon CSC. Since retiring I have regained some of my earlier enthusiasm, now waiting for Sony's next NEX release, hopefully it will soon.

Isn't it sad that so many of us UK members are complaining about the rain? Could be worse-could be snow.
Thanks, what no comment/advice re the photo's!
I am saddened by the effect the rain/flooding has had on so many unfortunate people. I would prefer snow, the light implications are endless.
Hi fellow Enthusiasts
Your comment on these two photos I took last night, in poring rain, hoping to catch the latest comp. I had a further disappointment, I waited to go into town around 12.00 midnight only to find the lights were off, c'est la vie.

trying to decide between the Nikon coolpix p7700 and the Sony DSC RX100.... hard decision!!!!
I have the P5000 (which I enjoy) amongst a number of others and contemplated the P7700 as an upgrade but decided there are better options as you are considering in the Sony range i.e. NEX6/7 but I await the new Sony CSC due out in the spring.

Hi
Superb photos.
Where were the photos taken and what camera/lens were you using?
Bonkles[/quote
Thank you very much for the reply. It is nice to hear that other cameras do exist other than Nikon.
I thought I recognised the beach front a place I have taken many photos on my visits to Naples. Watching the Osprey, Pelicans and wading birds. A great place that I have enjoyed very much.
Thank you
Thanks for looking Bonkles, these were taken in Naples, Fl, with a canon T1i, canon 70-210mm lens with a tamron 1.4X, manual mode, f/4.5, 1/1,500, ISO 200, spot metering at 210mm[/quote]

I went to the store to check out the Nikon 3100, 3200, and 5100 and they all may be wonderful, but they did not fit my hand very well.. I did not check the 7000 but have to think the same condition may apply.. Sooo what is comparable in quality, options, lenses, and does a wonderful pic... I am not into the video.. please send your thoughts...
Why it did not fit my hand..the depth of the grip was too short on the right side front, and felt unstable with the thumb in the back of the camera... :-(..
I went to the store to check out the Nikon 3100, 3... (

I thought I had added my photo but its not shown with the group. What have I done wrong?

Hi Ansel
I think you should also look at the Sony NEX 5, 6 & 7 range, they are Compact System Cameras, in your search for that new camera. They have a focal length multiplier of 1.5 (rather than 2 for 4/3 cameras), the sensor type is APS-C and is larger than the sensors used in 4/3rds e.g. Panasonic etc.
The NEX 5NEX & NEXF3 are around $500 the others mentioned here are higher priced but have great specifications.
