I am interested in opinions on a good small "pocket" camera. I have a Nikon DSLR and don't always want to carry it around all the time. I would like to have something to carry with me all the time. I have thought about moving to an iphone but I am a blackberry user and will probably go down with the ship. I have a coolpix s60and I am not crazy about it. Love to hear suggestions
Thanks
It all depends on how "deep" your pockets are, both Literally (jacket, shirt, pants coat, etc) and figuratively, (financial). When you answer these, I can better adivse you
There are a lot of choises out there. How much are you willing to spend? I have a Coolpix s8100.

I am a Canon shooter and have two small and capable P&S units, a G15 {replaces a G12} and a S95.
The S95 is really small compared to the G15 and they both give lots of control and will shoot RAW.
The sensors are a little bigger than the run of the mill P&S or pocketable cameras but they are also more expensive than the run of the mill cameras.
I know Nikon has one very similar to the G12/G15 and will most likely have one similar to the S95. I generally have one with me or in the car at all times.
It is hard to beat the Sony RX-100. has manual everything, f/1.8 Carl Zeus lens, 20 MP and a 1 inch sensor. I love mine and hardly carry the SLR anymore. A bit pricy at $700.00 US, but worth every penny.
The RX-100 has many built in effects that are usually done in Post processing. The 1 feature I am in love with is the in camera HDR. It works wonderfully and there is a setting for low light (almost no light) where the camera will take 6 photos and combine them into one. It is just an amazing camera.
Taken in a local resturant. He had on overalls and these fancy shoes.

The good news is - there are lots of good choices. The bad news is - there are lots of good choices. Unless you have specific requirements, you can't go wrong with an upper end name brand P&S. As you narrow your choices, check with

Hey Doc ..... I like Nikon SLR's but give Canon my vote for point n shoots .....
..... ya gotta elaborate on your wants cause the features and prices are all over the chart .....
..... If I was going for a pocket camera right now it'd be a S series ..... S100, or S110
Canon SD4000 is a small manual capable and inexpensive camera.
Takes great shots.

And don't forget refurbs, usually on the manuifacturer's site.
Wow great replies thank you. I really dont want to spend alot. I would rather put the money into glass for my DSLR. Would definately be interested in RAW capabilities. I do like to shoot manual so something that is easy to control. One thing I dont like about the s60 is it isnt easy to change settings quickly and on the fly while shooting because everything is off the touch screen. I do understand that everything is a trade off and you get what you pay for.
If you like to change settings, don't go by what I suggested, the Nikon s8100 is totally automatic.
Panasonic SZ-7 is very small, very good with Leica lens, 10x optical. About $99-129
I would look for one in the $100 - $150 range...a good brand name....one with a view finder and LCD Screen....multiple settings....rechargeable batteries and built in flash.
I recently got the Sony RX100. It is pricy but blows away any pocket camera I've used before. On a visit to the battleship Alabama museum, I was able to get remarkable shots in almost no light. The in camera HDR and image stabilization are wonderful. You won't feel guilty leaving the DSLR behind!
