Those came out really nice. My Dad scanned all his old slides, about 100,000 it seems like, and he's spent his recent retirement removing dust specks in Picasa. I think he should get his old job back and hire someone else to do it!

Don't think he wants his old job back. It is quite a lot of fun scanning the slides. Many times while scanning I can reflect back to the time I took the shot. Dust removal can be a real issue. I normally blow the slides off with a rocket blower, scan them if a little dust still remains so what they are only going to be filed anyway. Then if I would like to do something further with a scanned slide then I will take care of dust then. My scanner will do dust removal (somehow) , but it is really slow, but does a good job. Thanks for your comments and taking time to look.

Thank you mam. I really like 4 as well. I selected that one for the same reason you like it. Thanks again!

The photos are great! The year I got my first SLR camera was a very rainy one and mushrooms became my favourite subject that summer.
# 6 Is a Morel, reputed to be delicious.
# 7 is NOT a mushroom. It is a saprophytic plant known as "Indian Pipes" It does not produce chlorophyll so it cannot use light to make glucose. Instead, it absorbs materials from the decaying plant matter in the forest floor.
Its existence is more typical of a fungus but it reproduces by producing seeds in its flower. The flower it the black and white part at the top of the stem.
The photos are great! The year I got my first SLR ... (show quote)

Thank you for your comments. Not to be a wise guy, I call anything that is around dead or decaying things in the forest, mushrooms. I am most sincere and thank you for the brief lesson.

All very good shots, Doug! I'm going to have to hunt for some mushrooms to shoot! Did you have to lie on your belly to get these? I'd never get up!!

Hi Sailorsmon. Yes most of these were done on my belly, but that was some 25-30 years ago. I still try getting down low for some shots, but have to pick and choose my location very carefully as I need something to help me get back up. My knees are the issue, I think a transplant from the hips down would be wonderful. Wild flowers and mushrooms have always been a favorite subject of mine. Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment!

It didn't work. Hmmmm. Not sure what to do. If you post just that photo as a .jpg I could work with it.

I thought coming out of scanner that it would be JPEG. I will have to see what I can do. Thanks again.

I lived about 15 miles from here for 27 years. Used to visit them a lot. An arsonist set them on fire about 15 years ago and the remains were hauled away.

Visited Wiscasset several times over the years. Photographed the hulks in the 80's early 90's.

Recently, a very good friend who also visited there many times over the years presented me with a handmade ballpoint pen made from wood salvaged from the wrecks. As a Somerset, MA native, he followed the ships' histories for many years.

Man that's neat. I lived in Bangor for 5 years during the early to mid fifties. What a wonderful place to live at that time. My wife and two sons vacationed in the Boothbay Harbor for several years during the 80's, lots of fond memories!

I agree with these comments. I like all the photos, too. If #1 were mine, I'd probably make an illustration out of it which might make it more compelling. The other ones are interesting enough as they stand without heavy PP, just could use some contrast, clarity, etc. adjustments.

Thanks for your comments Heirloom Tomato. I'm not quite sure what you mean by making an illustration from #1. Feel free to do tinker with #1 if you wish. I'm going to have to learn the art of PP AS I find it a little intimating. Thanks again.

You requested comments.
Subjects and composition great.
With the exception of #3, I think they need more contrast, clarity, and vibrance adjustments.
Looks like you did a good job removing dust.
I am curious as to which scanner you used, and have you tried scanning any negatives?
What software are you using?
I like all the photos.

Thank you very much for your comments and taking the time to comment. I purchased the Epson V500 refurbished from their site. I have not scanned any negatives as I have many more slides to do. The scanner will I fact do negs.. PP for me is something that I have not done much of. Just don't know where to start. The Scanner came with a copy of Elements 9, so I guess I will have to sit down one day and see what I can do. The only other software as far as the scanner is concerned is the driver disc that came with it.

Those look really good, and the scanner is great. I have tons of slides from the 70's and 80's I need to scan. I will check this one out. Thanks for sharing.
