Not sure what the problem is...the climate has never been static.

Warming is better than cooling....no contest.

For the human race, as a whole, you are absolutely right. Another ice age would be far worse for humanity than any amount of g****l w*****g. As for the more subtle climatic changes witnessed over the past century, benefit vs harm is up for debate, and depends on one's point of view. As a long time NYC resident, I welcome the milder winters. For me it means a longer sailing season and lower heating bills. I am sure that local golfers would agree. I am not about to complain about seeing bare legs on the ladies well into december either. Someone else who loves skiing, snowmobiling, or other winter sports, or whose livelihood depends on them might beg to differ. As to members of the animal kingdom, that depends on what species they belong to. In the case of the alligator mentioned earlier, it would have seemed unimaginable 50 or 60 years ago to find one swimming in Prospect Park Like I said before, this creature was probably released months ago, and managed to survive and grow, due to the exceptionally mild winter we have been experiencing. It was near death when caught, and I suspect another cold snap would have finished it off. This certainly doesn't rule out the possiblity of breeding populations just out of their normal range. Check out the map made around 30 years ago. It shows how they extend almost to the Virginia/North Carolina border. I don't doubt that several have crossed that line and are lurking in the Virgina side of the Dismal Swamp canal. Tennessee might even be next. For Polar Bears, the opposite is happening. Not only is their normal habitat shrinking, but they are coming into conflict with humans in their search for food, and with Grizzly bears in their search for mates, resulting in a hybrid species, the "Pizzly Bear"

Christmas Eve 2015 in Central New Jersey. Those Tree Huggers don't have a leg to stand on

Several years ago, I posted a thread in the photo gallery section praising g****l w*****g entitled "April in December; No Snow, No Stockings, No Problems" It showed a Christmas Eve Party in central New Jersey where some of the ladies were wearing short dresses with bare legs, along with a few shots of flowers blooming while Christmas decorations were on display. Needless to say, I was enjoying the unseaonably mild weather. For the most part, this winter has been a repeat performance in the middle atlantic region. Now it looks like the chickens have come home to roost. Yesterday a four foot long live alligator was pulled out of Brooklyn's Prospect Park lake. Due to its size, I don't think it was a recently discarded pet. Most owners would release it before it grew to a dangerous size. Furthermore, it would be quite difficult to sneak it into the park once it grew to that size. I suspect managed to live and grow for quite a while before it was caught, feeding on the available, fish, frogs, ducks, and turtles in the lake. Unlike crocodiles, gators can withstand relatively cold temperatures. If it could manage to survive that long in the Northeast, Virgina, and Maryland might have their own breeding population before long. Think about it, before you jump into your favorite swimming hole

On a recent photo walk in Staten Island's Fort Wadsworth park, I noticed a young couple peering at the objective lens of one of the pedestal mounted binoculars overlooking New York Harbor. When they left, I took a look myself and saw that someone, probably a teenage boy, had scratched the "F" word into the protective glass cover of the lens. No doubt, the culprit was hoping that any viewer looking to scan the NYC skyline would see the world's favorite expletive instead. While clearly a destructive act, I am not ashamed to say that it amused me and made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. As a long time photography hobbyist and lifelong recreation sailor, familiar with optical instruments, I chuckled at the offender's lake of familiarity with binoculars. For one thing, there is no way that any binocular would be able to focus on anything that close to the objective lens. In the unlikely event that it did, the viewer would see the mirror image. On a deeper level, it was strangely comforting to see that boys will always be boys. In my younger days, I did similar pranks. Later on, I emailed pictures of the damage to my sister and we shared a few laughs. She reminded me of the day more than six decades ago when I learned to swear. Like many five year olds, my dirty word vocabulary consisted of "sissy" and "doodie". One day my sister who was two years older than me came home with a s**t eating grin. She announced that it was time to ditch those words and replace them with "s**t" and "'fuck". I asked her what they meant and she replied that she didn't know anything other than that they were real bad. Knowing they were bad, but not knowing why added to their mystique, and for the rest of the day, we paraded around the house putting either or both of those words in every sentence. For wh**ever its worth, I would not have found defacing someone's home, personal property, house of worship, or headstone the least bit amusing, like I did in this instance

I'm totally pro police also but I agree that at times some will let their rage overtake their common sense and will use unnecessary deadly force. Given what they must deal with we don't know how we would react in the situations they face but regardless of that they must be held accountable. If they can't handle the stress they should pursue another line of work.

I have a Tamron 18-400 on a Fujifilm camera with Fringer adapter. I have noticed that the lens is "active" in between my taking pictures when the camera is on. I don't know if this is the stabilization or autofocus but the noise is annoying. For those who own this lens: does it do this when mounted on a Canon or Nikon body? Is there a menu choice that controls this? I am trying to figure out if this is normal for this lens or it has to do with mating a Canon mount to a Fuji X-mount using the Fringer adapter.
I have a Tamron 18-400 on a Fujifilm camera with F... (show quote)

Considering the costs and drawbacks of lens mount adapter, I would simply buy a Canikon DSLR body to mount that lens

Do you carry a "real" camera with you at all times? If you don't, and you are out with just your phone, and a great photo opportunity presents itself, you won't shoot it with your phone?

Of course I will I was just overstating the case. It so happens that I only have a mid level phone, so the pictures will never match even a budget point and shoot If I need to take a photo after a fender bender and I don't have a camera, out comes the smartphone; ditto if something unusual or newsworthy come across my eyes. If I am in CVS pharmacy and my wife needs hair gel, I will take a picture of it and text it to her if I am not sure which one she wants. My position in this debate is similar to my audiophile friends stand on his car stereo vs home system. His car stereo is top notch and better than most people's home system. Nonetheless, it can't compare to what he has at home. If he is driving somewhere, and wants to listen to music, he turns on his car stereo. If he feels like relaxing to some good classical music, he sits at home and puts it on, rather than sitting in his car in the driveway
