Tamron 18-400 help needed

I have a Tamron 18-400 on a Fujifilm camera with Fringer adapter. I have noticed that the lens is "active" in between my taking pictures when the camera is on. I don't know if this is the stabilization or autofocus but the noise is annoying. For those who own this lens: does it do this when mounted on a Canon or Nikon body? Is there a menu choice that controls this? I am trying to figure out if this is normal for this lens or it has to do with mating a Canon mount to a Fuji X-mount using the Fringer adapter.

My Tamron 18-400 makes no noise at all between pictures whether connected to my Nikon D7100 or D500.

Have you tried turning the stabilization switch on the lens to the off position to see if that is causing the noise?

It does appear to be the autofocus as the clicking stops when I go to manual focus. I can even see the manual focus ring moving. So the main question I have now is it it is quiet without adapting to non-native mount using the Fringer. One person has already said it is on their Nikons. I am just wondering if they only use the manual focus mode though?

Do you have the camera set to "Continuous Focus". This will make it constantly hunt for a focus.

Good question... I am using a Fuji S10 and I guess I will need to go to the manual. I see a setting that says pre-AF ON but it is not bold so it is not available to change in my current settings.

Nope! I very seldom use manual focus.

Thanks Andy.

I have tried to figure out how to change autofocus from continuous to something else and can't figure it out on the S10. Again wondering if the issue is with my S10 & settings or with the way the Fringer operates?

Look in the menu autofocus and then for focus mode. choose single af. this should fix your problem

I would suggest you turn the Pre-AF On, off. I find it doesn't speed up focusing that much, and yes it starts hunting before you do your halfway press. This may be the noise.

Same here on my D7200 and D500. It goes active when the shutter button is pushed down 1/2 way.

My experience is the same as Grump's. No action when not being used actively.

Considering the costs and drawbacks of lens mount adapter, I would simply buy a Canikon DSLR body to mount that lens

I discovered the problem seems to go away when I switch from auto to program mode.
