The bobsled run is not new.

It was built in 1930 for the 1932 Olympics as the only bob-run in America and operated now by the Olympic Regional Development Authority. Originally the bob-run was 2,350 meters long (about a mile and a half) but the upper part has not been used since the '32 Olympics.

Now the run is about a mile (1600 meters) with a drop of about 165 meters with an average grade of 10.2%

Of course no snow yet.

The 1932 Olympics were held there but I don't know which structures were there at that time compared to the existing ones.

With the exception of the 1980 rink and the practice rink next to it of course. The 1932 rink is still there which was undergoing some maintenance when I was there recently.

Now if only the NHL could get it together on their CBA.

Agree with SteveR. The pass interference should have been called.

Agreed. I had pointed that out earlier.

Oh, and the replay officials in the booth are NOT replacements. They are the regular officials used by the NFL.

They, of all people, should have overruled the on field officials and corrected the call.

As you pointed out Scoutman, you are right regarding Green Bay's lack of QB protection and trouble scoring put them into that situation. The score should not have been so close.

If GB were ahead on the scoreboard by a much larger margin, this play would not be getting the attention it is.

There was offensive pass interference when the Seahawks receiver pushed the Packers defender in front of him.

If a flag had been thrown for that penalty, it wouldn't have mattered if the ball was caught or not.

Oh, and the torch is still up.

They sure do. You can ride the Bobsleds (on wheels, I don't think they do it on ice during the winter...too dangerous maybe?). We did see some people riding on them when we were there.

I believe the ski jumps are still used for training, the oval where Eric Heiden won his speed skating medals is certainly still used and we also went inside to the ice rinks where the U.S. team beat the Soviets, now called Herb Brooks Arena, the practice rink right next to it and the rink used for the 1932 Olympics. They have a very nice museum in the building as well.

It was thrilling to walk around the 1980 arena and I even stood on the Soviet bench. They were resurfacing the ice for a game and the arena was empty. Just standing there and knowing what had taken place was unreal. I would love to play hockey there someday.

Here are two shots I took on Sept. 14 of the Lake Placid Olympic Bobsled runs.

I sent the camera and lens to Rick in Denver. It should arrive there by tomorrow.

I'll let you all know what he has to say. The lens is the big question mark. I did try two other lenses on the body and they seem to be working normally but I am having him check it out anyway.

That was a good article by B & H.

Important information was relayed and now I have a better understanding of the subject of VR.

Thanks for the link high-flyer!

Hi Rick,

I sent a pm to you and I will ship out my D7000, broken lens and charger today for you to assess.

I used the camera with the 18-70mm lens that came with my older D70 and the 70-300mm zoom I bought at the time and they both appear to be working normally leading me to think that the camera body is okay but I would like you to check it out anyway.

I look forward to hearing from you after you have a look.
