A recent update to photoshop gave me a message that my video card wasn’t good enough anymore. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro. Anyone else get this message? Can I upgrade the video card? I’ve been considering upgrading and going with the 16” MacBook Pro with either the new M1 chip or M1 pro chip. Anyone have one of the new MacBook Pro with the new chip? How does it work with Lightroom? Photoshop? Luminar?

I also have the Sony 7 Rii. Great camera - except for battery life!! I’d keep what you have and perhaps look for another lens. I too have the same adapter as you have but my Tamron 70-200 will not auto focus. So be careful what you look for

Some very nice shots. Keep it up. How did you learn to approach strangers?

I’m with you. Photoshop, to me, is very intimidating. IMHO if you use photoshop and start adding layers and make things disappear then you’re a good computer guy and not necessarily a good photographer. Again this is my opinion so I hope others aren’t offended but if you are - too bad

Your body your choice.

It is your body and your choice but do you believe that you have a responsibility to your family and loved ones? Friends and neighbors? A friend of mine “chose” not to get the shot, got Covid and survived, but in turn he passed it on to his father who didn’t make it. How you think he feels? Don’t say it can’t happen. It can and did. Just get the jab

True - your body - your choice. I wonder how someone would feel if they refused the vaccine, got the bug, was strong enuf to fight it off but in turn passed it on to a loved one in their family and that loved one died. Don’t say it can’t happen. It did happen to a good friend of mine. While you do have a choice, you also have a responsibility to your family, loved ones and the general public. End of rant

4 & 5 are the best. The first three the sun and shadows are a distraction

I bought the more expensive Sony adapter (don’t remember model number) and it works great with a Sigma art lens I have but it won’t focus(except manually) on my Tamron 70-200

Agreed that the 24-105 is a great lens. As for the adapter - I bought the more expensive Sony adapter (not sure on model number) and it’s kinda hit and miss on which lens it works with. I have a Tamron 70-200 and I can only manual focus but my Sigma art lens works great with the adapter

Thanks for everyone chiming in on my last topic. Sorry I couldn’t answer everyone individually.

I had another challenge recently.

I shot a real quick wedding (due to Covid). There were only a few shots of a quick ceremony.

The bride didn’t like the photos.

You see, the place was not well lit and my camera does not handle noise well so I used an 85 mm 1.4 lens at 1.4 but not for every shot just most of the shots.

I was creative about it showing the groom in focus with the bride out of focus in the background. Also shots like the bride holding out the bouquet with the flowers in focus and her out of focus. The bokeh was very nice. There were several shots with a different lens where everything was much more in focus.

She was upset because the pictures were “blurry and out of focus”. What I suddenly realized was that she was very left-brained so to speak and for her everything had to be in focus or it was a bad picture.

What do you do with people who don’t understand art and things like bokeh. My website shows plenty of shots with bokeh. But I’ve run into people who don’t understand things like soft focus and creative shots showing things like just the back of the dress or just their hands holding or his face cut off showing just his chin with her head leaning on his shoulder out of focus. Stuff like that.

I did not get a chance to sit down with the bride and groom and get a feel for them because he called me at the last minute and there was no time. I had served him before by photographing everyone in his office. He’s a great guy.

He liked the bokeh but she did not. She saw my website so she got a feel for my style.

I was really nervous because he is a lawyer. But he is the nicest guy in the world and he said he understood that it was a difference in artistic interpretation.

I remember another left brained person like that one time I fully decorated my studio and it was beautiful and I asked one of my clients how she liked it and everything was beautiful and she looked around and she said one of the ceiling tiles was out of place and that was her whole impression of everything. That was her comment about how beautiful the studio looked.

Left brained people?

This is a perfect example that you need to meet with any client beforehand to discussion how everything should go. They tell you their wants and you judge if you can meet their needs or not. I hope you learned a valuable lesson from this.

Dear Friends: I am a huge fan of Africa. I will be headed back when Covid 19 is under control.

I am putting together a list, perhaps an article, on planning for a trip to Africa with an emphasis on photography. I am asking my fellow UHH friends to write down one (or more) tip that they learned or did that might they would like to see added to the list. The tip does not have to be photography related. For instance, our travel advisor had us arriving in Johannesburg and leaving the following morning to Zambia. My wife intervened and planned a few days in J'Burg to see the Apartheid Museum, Soweto, learn more about Mandela, etc. We stayed in a lovely B&B. It was an excellent addition to our trip.

Might be a fun and enlightening conversation.

My wife and I went to S Africa and loved. We went thru a tour company called Gate One. Very reasonable and we had a great time
