Thanks. Yes, I am very happy with the D750's resolution and have no desire to deal with the extremely large files at 46 mp. But AF systems make a difference. Hopefully we'll hear from someone with low light experience with both cameras.

As for repairing the old one, there are some used ones in excellent condition with far fewer shutter counts and not a lot more money than it would cost to repair the old one so if I go the D750 direction, I'd trade in the old one "as is" for one with far less wear.

The D850 is both Nikon's best and final DSLR. But personally, I think D750 is the best mix of price and performance in the Nikon DSLRs. As you even admit, 46MP is overkill, unless you need a print size with that pixel resolution or need deep, deep crops into the image details. Only you can decide how best to spend your money, where any used D850, D750 or D780 seems like a logical replacement, although a repair might still be cost-effective, depending on what you can find in used body prices.

First, Sony and Canon make wonderful cameras, but I'm not going to switch systems and I really do love my Nikons so please refrain from posting about other systems. I have 3 Nikon DSLR bodies. I have no objection to mirrorless except that because everyone wants them, DSLRs are at fire sale prices. I have a D600, D750 and D850. I only recently bought the D850 and as far as I can tell it's a better camera than everything that came before the Z9. And what an amazing workhorse my D750 has been! But it finally started to succumb to all the abuse from dozens of weddings, travel, and on and on. The hotshoe stopped functioning and that's vital to my professional work so sent it off to be repaired asking for an estimate to repair/replace the hotshoe and generally go over the camera and see what else needs to be done. The shop came back with a cost of repairs that pretty much need to be done, at over $500. OK. That's a lot for a 10 year old camera with 120,000 clicks on the shutter. So thinking of trading it in as is, along with the D600. But what to buy? I'm not interested in going to the Z line because I have to either do everything with an adapter or buy new Z lenses. If price were no obstacle then a Z8 would be the way to go. But price is an obstacle. $4 grand for the body only, plus the adapter or Z lenses - just can't justify the expense. So the question is should I buy a used D750 or a used D850? I prefer to shoot the D850 at 25 mp resolution so forget the resolution diff. The D750 is a lot less money and weighs a little less. But the D850 has a much better AF system and handles much higher ISO levels. Low light performance is important for weddings and my hobby is shooting at night - the milky way, light painting, etc. So handling noise is important but so is low light focus ability. I've always had a lot of trouble focusing the D750 in low light because once you lose any contrast, it can't do it. I only just got my D850 so not enough experience to know. For you D850 owners, how good is it at getting focus at night? Anyone have both a D750 and D850 that can weigh in?

I'm a snowbird. I live in Florida from Nov to May. I agree with pretty much everything that's been written here. The Keys are probably the most scenic place in Florida. The overseas highway is a treat to drive. In particular Big Pine Key has a beautiful state park. The shallow water through the Keys is a beautiful turquoise color and crystal clear. Kennedy Space Center is great for a day. Just west of it tucked between it and the mainland is Merritt Island state park. Really abundant wildlife there. Just north is the Canaveral National Seashore. Pristine beaches and dunes. Beautiful places on the inland side of the park to just sit and watch river dolphins go by. St Petersburg has one of the largest collections of Salvador Dali paintings and sculptures in the world. And right there is also the Chihulli glass museum. And back over on the East Coast is St. Augustine. A bit touristy but enjoyable. In between, north of Orlando is the very large Ocala National Forest. Beautiful southern pines and hills for miles and miles and miles. Very rich in wildlife.

mirrored v mirrorless - over the last decade there has been virtually no change in image quality for similar cameras. I'll reference Nikon models since that's what I shoot. Put a photo in front of anyone taken with a 10 year old D750 and another one from a brand new Z8 and ask them to tell you which was taken by which camera. Without looking at the data, they can't do it. What has advanced is autofocus and with mirrorless AF has the chance to be even better, and it is. So if you get 90% of your photos in focus with Z8, that might drop down to 75% in focus with a D750. Of course, it depends on what you're doing and the conditions. The reason another response referenced the Nikon D850 is that it's probably the best mirrored camera ever made. And if someone wants to argue that, let's say it's either the best or one of the best. And you can get it for a price that's far below the cost of a new Z8. At the end of the day, it comes down to what you want your camera to do. If you're just taking landscapes and portraits, in other words, things that don't move around much, a high end expensive mirrorless camera is serious overkill. But if you're shooting sports, or children, or wildlife, then the advantages of the latest AF systems will be important to you. As for brands, after you decide what you most want to do with the camera, then buy the brand with the best camera for that genre. And don't fret about this a lot because all the major brands make excellent cameras. We camera buyers are in a nice situation because it's pretty hard to make a mistake when choosing which brand. But start by answering the question - what do you mostly plan to do with this camera?

I've generated some very weird shit with Generative Fill, and then I'll get a flawless background, or change of clothes for a portrait, like it was real.

Some of the YouTube gurus are questioning whether it should have been out of beta yet, and I wondered the same thing. One guy said in a video that the 2000 ppi limit applies only to text effects, and not to image generation, which remains at 1024. There is no text effects in Photoshop, that is a Firefly feature. Furthermore, if it is authorized for commercial use, what's with the "violation of guidelines" warning that pops up every time there is any skin in the picture?

This is great fun, but I'm just glad I know how to use the traditional tools also.

I was just notified that version 25.0 of Photoshop was available, a version that is supposed to be AI enhanced. I've downloaded it, but haven't tried to dig out exactly what's changed. Is anyone here familiar with these changes? Have you tried anything yet? If so, can you provide some examples where the AI enhanced features were applicable?

Thank you in advance.

I've used it quite extensively. At first I was amazed but now having used it quite a bit, I avoid it. Here's why. 1) It's a bit like Forest Gump's box of chocolates. You never know what you'll get and not in a good way. So it's very hit and miss. But more importantly, 2) the resolution is very low. Zoom in on anything you've created and you'll see that the area created by Generative AI is mushy. It won't print large and I doubt it would score in any competition. And finally, 3) I got bored.

So I only use it when I can't think of another way. Generative expand is probably the most useful for me because I shoot a lot at night and don't always get enough in the frame. But even then I'm reluctant because of the low resolution.

What I find far more useful is the new Remove Tool. It's also AI and somewhat generative. It's kind of a cross between generative AI and the Spot Healing tool. I use it almost all the time. It's in the same group as the Spot Healing tool and the Healing brush.

Keh has a used on which cost just as much as a new one from 42nd Street.
How do I know the used one is not a gray market one

Check with KEH. They are very likely to know. And they stand behind their guarantee for 180 days.

My fault was to hold my camera without strapping on while walking. I stumbled without seeing there were 2 steps down while walking under bright sun between buildings and high contrast shadows with my sunglasses on.
It happened on my 71 birthday. I didn't get hurt except my pride and my 8 years old D610 with my 1 month old 16-35 VR lens; the lens broke off and torn some parts from the camera body. I hope the lens seems ok but have no means to test it.
The bright side is time to upgrade to D780.
Any suggestions where to buy it. 42nd Street sells for $1369; is it a good deal?
I don't mind a used one if the price is right.

I strongly agree with what's been said about 42nd Street by other photographers here. Avoid them. Modern cameras are pretty complex pieces of equipment. If you need help with it, you might not be able to get it. I've had great luck with used equipment from KEH and MPB. I've returned equipment to KEH within the warranty period for a full refund with no questions asked. The big difference in buying a camera body is that KEH won't give you the shutter activation count, MPB will. For that reason I bought my used D850 from MPB. The Nikon's I have owned have been incredibly durable but they have occasionally put out flawed equipment that has been recalled or corrected by firmware updates. I personally own a D600 that was under recall. Nikon replaced the shutter even though I bought it used. I'm repeating all the other voices here, avoid buying grey market cameras. Not worth the risk.

Yes they do but read the reviews. I wouldn't go there under pretty much any circumstances. Everything said above regarding 42nd Street applies to Abe's of Maine. In particular Abe's is selling imported equipment not covered by US warranties and Nikon USA will refuse to service it. If it's subject to a recall you're SOL

First...my deepest sympathies on your fall. Glad you are OK.

This price is way out of line with the $2200 being asked by reputable dealers for a new D780. The fact that it is today only tells me that they don't want you to check them out. The ad as I can see it on my phone doesn't indicate why the price is so low, but I'm betting it is an import model with no NikonUSA warranty and no future factory service. The dealer is prominently selling warranty coverage at high prices.

Be aware, if you want a DSLR, that NikonUSA is selling refurbished D850s for $1999 through Tuesday.

I'd suggest passing on this.

I recently faced the decision of whether to buy the D780 or the D850 and chose the D850. Just got it about a week ago and used it to shoot a wedding this past weekend. Could not be happier. The reason for my choice was the D850 has the most advanced auto focus system ever put into a DSLR. 3 times the AF points as the D780. I agree with everything above. Avoid unusually low prices on new ones. The refurb deal from Nikon sounds good since Nikon will back it.
