Its well established that one of the major causes of personal bankruptcy, if not THE major cause, is medical expenses. Five years ago my wife was hospitalized with diverticulitis for one week. There were several MRIs, etc. The final bill was $135,000.00. We do have good insurance, but how many folks without insurance could pay that? And, BTW, this was at a "non profit" hospital.
