Sharing some of my favorite sunrise shots from this past year in the rural areas of NE Iowa. We get a lot of ground fog in the early morning hours from all the vegetation and it is one of my favorite times to get out and enjoy. No critiques just for sharing some of the beauty of my state and area.

No need for the sarcastic ending. “Duh”
Just answer the guys question. Not everyone is as camera savvy as you.

Exactly what I was thinking. Some people are jackasses and just don't care how people see them. Must be a lonely soul with few friends in real life.

And how much better was his health care than that of taxpayers who had to foot the bill for his sorry a$$ and now they can pay to bury him too.

Excellent examples of Iowa scenery Duane. When I view these, I’m reminded of a conversation I had with my nephew when I first got into photography a few years ago concerning landscapes. We both agreed that to be a landscape photographer in Iowa a person needs to be very creative. We have no oceans or mountains so one needs to look harder for landscapes to photograph. I’ve kept that in mind every time I go out searching the backroads for photo ops. I’ve done a lot of gravel travel in the last few years. Your photos here show that these scenes are out there. Nice work.

Thanks Walt and I fully agree on the difficulty of landscapes on the plains. This time of year is especially difficult between the falls leaves and the first snows. But they are out there and just need to be sought out. I too wander the backroads every weekend looking for these shots, so much more to see when one slows down to gravel speeds and looks around.

Not looking for critiques only sharing some more of my favorites and a short story on each one.

Rhodes Mill was taken after 14" snowfall, it is about 70 miles from my home, the day started off clear and I was just getting over a bad cold but decided to go for the shot. As I got closer the clouds closed in and the winds picked up. I had gone too far to turn back and this was the shot I got. I had to trudge through the snow and walk into the cold north winds and about coughed up a lung afterwards but love this image and had a 24 x 36 metal print made of it. It hangs in my living room now.

The abandoned farm image was made the first week of August. The back side of the home was crushed by the fallen tree. I love the old hay rake in the yard. When I got back from my trip to the badlands the place was leveled with no trace of the buildings. Was looking forward to a winter scene of it. 18-55 f9 Kit Lens on my Nikon D7100

The summer corn field image was taken with a 18-55 @18mm f9 Kit Lens on my Nikon D7100. I liked the rays cast out from the clouds on this one.

Level B sunrise, level B roads in Iowa are very low maintenance and tend to get muddy and impassible after heavy rains. This one caught my attention because of heavy ground fog and the rays from the sun cast to the heavens. Tokina 11-16 @16mm f/8

I was so enthralled in the images, I forgot all about the lens. I too, have that lens, but the longer variety. You put on a master’s class in how to shoot with it. If your intent was to motivate, you succeeded!

The one tricky thing with this lens is flare. Wrong angle to the sun and images can have lots of it but over all it is a very nice lens. Good luck shooting.

Great images!!!
#2 is just a bit over saturated with green.

Actually it was left alone on vibrancy and saturation, believe it or not. The boulder field is dolomite limestone that sees hardly any direct daylight and everything is covered in moss and ferns plus this was spring with all the new growth. Thanks.

I am sorry, I was wrong.
You have 4 wonderful pictures and I admire them!
Good work! Keep doing it! Amazing quality!!

I knew you would see it my way. Seriously, sarcasm? Though I do agree you are entitled to your opinion. I don't expect everyone to like what I do or how I do it and you were trying to be helpful. I do it for me first and it makes me happy doing it and others also like it. Cant please everyone and everyone has their own vision and opinion which is good or all images would look the same and all would be boring.

Several of your shots are not straight, otherwise, good job.

Possibly the first one could use some but in all of them the lay of the land and lack of a true horizon makes it hard to tell and can give the illusion of not being straight. The river shots all have bends and fold into their surroundings unlike a lake or ocean scene which is easy to follow a horizon and straighten. Thanks.

Sorry you got offended. Let me try to explain: Using the same lens in different situations is rarely appropriate. And if you do not accept somebody's else opinion you have little chance to improve.

I am not offended for the most part, just was not asking for help or opinions on my work of asked for help. It is your opinion and everyones opinion is subjective when it comes to art. The lens is my go-to lens for landscapes period until I decide to use one of my others. I have other lens and use them when I feel they are required. I chose these because it is what I wanted and my vision for the scene I was viewing.

This means that except in rare cases, each lens can be used in only one situation. 🤔

Enjoyed your photos but the copyright is distracting.

I understand that but I sell online and images are taken all the time by people thinking they are free. I work too hard to make it easy to use. Though not a complete deterant it creates work to remove. Kind of like leaving you house unlocked or locked.

I liked the first two. The other images would have been better taken with a longer lens.
I also believe the ones that commented were far too polite and this is nice but not helpful.

I was not looking for or asking for help or critique. Sometimes people just like showing their work they are proud of or happy with. Had I wanted critique it would have been asked for, thanks but I had to clear that up for you the next time you feel the need to be critical. Also because I did not use the equipment or method you would of does not mean it would have been better. Just different and that would be your vision and not mine then...
