not bad, but a little confusing as to where the main point of interest, as its kind of a jumble, still good of you to post the image, and like I always say never give up, because you will always get better with experience

Melvin,
Thank you for your kind, honest critique of my photo. I guess the main focal point what where the two trees intersected, from my math teaching days. I really just liked the picture. The contrast between the colors in the two trees, but I can definitely understand how it appears confusing. Again, thank you because you actually made it a lot easier to put a photo up than I thought.

Hi Everyone,
It's been a couple of weeks since I introduced myself to this great forum and I've finally gotten up the nerve to post a photo. Please remember that my 70D was set on full automatic, I'm getting closer to moving off though. I don't have much to say about the photo other than what I've stated. I was just wondering what others thought of the shot, let me have it the good/bad/ugly and I promise not to cry, too much. I've gotta start somewhere so here it goes, and please ask any questions you may have, I don't know if I'll be able to answer but will try.
Thanks,
Laura

San Francisco, CA — The ‘war on Christmas’ continues as a simple well-wishing of ‘Merry Christmas’ has led to big trouble for one fourth-grade San Francisco boy this week.

Timothy Dawson, a 9-year-old student at Argon Elementary School in San Francisco, CA., was in the school cafeteria Monday eating with friends when he was taken to the principal’s office and given a week-long suspension. His punishment was consequence for saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to his homeroom teacher earlier that morning.

Dawson’s teacher, 35-year-old Paul Horner who is an outspoken Atheist, was offended at the students display of Christmas spirit and had staff suspend the young boy for the rest of the week.

“I say ‘Merry Christmas’ to everyone,” the boy told CNN. “I didn’t think it would cause so much trouble just for saying a couple little words.”

The boy’s mother, Laura Dawson, 41, was fuming over the issue.

“You don’t traumatize a child who loves to go to school, who wanted to be early every day to school, you don’t make him cry, just for wishing someone Merry Christmas,” she told reporters, holding back tears. “You just don’t do it.”

Reporters spoke with Mr. Horner as he was leaving from school on Tuesday. “I warned the children not to bring religion into my classroom,” Horner said. “Maybe he’ll [Tim] listen to adults next time.”

Argon Elementary School officials declined to comment.

Banjee5,
As I read this I became more and more upset. I've taught for ten years and even if one doesn't believe in religion, one faith over another or as this teacher stated "I warned them not to bring religion into the classroom" chances are at the 4th grade age level, the boy wasn't thinking as Christmas as a religious symbol but as any other holiday where presents are given. And even if he is knowledgeable about the true meaning of Christmas, I believe whole heartily he meant it as a greeting more than anything else. And the school, giving into this teacher is unbelievable. I'd like to see the school handbook and see where it states a child gets a weeks suspension for wishing someone a Merry Christmas. It had better be in there along with all the consequences that go along with inappropriate behaviors. If any punishment should have been given to the boy, it should have been a written letter of apology, not a weeks suspension. As for the teacher his punishment for acting so childish should have been a weeks suspension without pay. Ridiculous!! This never should have occurred, and the school officials need to grow backbones to stand up to unreasonable teachers and staff members.

The other night I was ready to crawl into bed when I thought about shooting a photo. Not willing to get into my heavy clothes and go outside with a tripod and freeze my butt, I pressed the camera against the window to stabilize it and clicked off some shots. I was using approximately 5 second exposures. After I got the photogtraphic bug out of my system, I was was able to go to sleep still having warm toes and fingers.

Bikinkawboy,
I'm new here and don't know much about photography, but I had to tell you I love your photo. If you had never said it was taken through a window, I would have never guessed.
Nice job and beautiful pic.

Al,
You have been blessed with a very thoughtful son and as you've said a son you are proud of to call your son. I believe you would have been just as pleased with a Skype call, but I have a feeling your son wanted to do more for his father. The father he is so proud of and the memories he keeps close to heart when reliving his years with you. This spectacular gift was his way of showing you what a responsible man he's become and probably gave him great joy in being able to give you something you specifically wanted.
Remember, children grow into adults and as one adult child reflecting on this occasion I feel proud when I'm able to give my mom something she really wants no matter what time of year, but Xmas surprises seem to be the best. I believe parents always see their children as children and have a difficult time seeing them as adults or equals.
I believe you have a son who is very proud of his parents, especially his dad and this year he was able to provide for his father in the same manner his father would have provided for him.
Reflect and enjoy remembering your son throughout the years as he is most likely doing the same with his memories. Then know your son chose to give you something special because he admires you as the father and adult he's been waiting to claim as his equal.
Happy Holidays,
Laura

Fakensteen,
Welcome to the hog and I might be of help with your posts. I taught first grade and early on spelling is usually one syllable and I became quiet good at reading and understanding various writings, even with 15-19 year old who wrote similarly. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Hi Bad Grandpa,
I'm not familiar with the cameras but I think your idea is fantastic. As an aunt who sees the same behavior from her nephews, I absolutely agree, get them away from the bubble and let them live a little. Who cares if each comes back with a bruise, if they enjoyed it that's all that mattered. As a teacher, I think the idea of cameras is fantastic. As I stated I'm not familiar with the choice you made, but I do know there are cameras out there that are digital and designed for younger children, they can drop them on the ground and in water and they're good to go. Again as the teacher in me they could take pictures and write a sentence or two about the photos, make it a learning experience too, just get them cool notebooks and pens/pencils/crayons whichever they choose. You could even model this for them and make it a secret grandpa code adventure. I say whatever camera you choose will be great and I think this is a terrific idea. I wish you were my grandpa when I was younger, it sounds like a blast.
No longer Bad Grandpa, but Cool Grandpa,
Laura

I love the Bald Eagle next to the moss...they compliment each other. I've never seen a Juvenile Bald Eagle, how old do you think he/she is? We don't see many in NY Hudson Valley.
