The Manfrotto 3030 would be great for landscape work. I use a similar head for mine. I use a gimbal head for my long lenses and have a couple of different models - a Mongoose Jobu, and the Adorama one that was just on sale All work good. If you have a camera store near go and look at what they have and make up your mind.

One item to keep in mind is, Lightroom is more of an overall photo type program. In other words, makes total changes to the whole picture. Other programs allow you to do specific spot repairs. Lightroom is know for its cataloging abilities as already mentioned. I know a few that use both, but it depends on what kind of shooting you do. Great for landscapes as you normally do everything to the whole photo!!

Wrong
with the adjustment brush tool you can make specific changes to portions of your photo. I use it all the time and LR5 beta does even better with cloning and healing

Once again, I come to this blog to learn. What is an artistic idea to one may not be to another. I often look at my shooting by seeing a subject within a subject, something that can result from, for example, focusing on a swan's feathers, cropping, editing somewhat. The result? An artistic rendition of a recognizable subject in to something brand new, getting comments like: "what's that?" This pic of the woman is beautiful, imaginative, new, artistic, outgoing, may I say say daring?? And I'm 71. Geesh, does that mean that I should remain conservative and perhaps not explore new and unexplored ideas? Everyone of us should always appreciate the work of others and avoid judging.
Once again, I come to this blog to learn. What is ... (show quote)

An another answer, is that photography is an art, just like painting. Just as there are many different styles of paintings there are many different styles of photography. One styles no worse than the other. When you look at a painting are photograph it is your eye that decides whether you like it or not. So, you can experiment with different styles and then come up with one that you want to be your own and just stick with that are various style as your mood fits you on that day.

On Photo is a great post processing program, But it doesn't catalog photos like Lightroom. Get Both and use LR for downloading cataloging printing etc and any photo that need additional post processing use On Photo

I read the manual, but with 2 differnt camera bodies it sometimes hard to remeber specific functions in each one. So I have Dropbox and have PDF vesions of the manuals in it so I can access them either with my IPad or my smartphone. At home I use an after market book such as Darrel young's one for my Nikons to explain the functions better

What makes a fast lens. I don't understand what it means when people say this. Specs please? :)

In wide angle to short telephoto lenses fast means a f stop of 2.8 0r less. In Long telephoto it is usually and f/4 lens though there are some long telephoto lenses that are f/2.8

The only filters I use are polarizing , neutral density, and graduated neutral density filters. I protect the lens with lens shades. I have rubber lens shades that I use with the filters

Thank you. I guess need to get used to it. Can I work on layers in LR?

So far no layers in LR. OnOne and Topaz plug-in do allow layers within their programs, Otherwise you would need to export to PS

You cannot go wrong with Amazon, B&H, Adorama or Hunts Photo. All are good sellers. I have used all of them without any problems

In LR when you make changes in the develop module, the changes stay there unless you reset what you did. Now if you want to say send someone a copy you then need to export Control-Shift-E enter the parameters you want and where you want to save the photo then hit enter

I would suggest experimenting with the Histogram feature. Thsi should give you a quick "snap shot" of your overall results

learn to use the histogram, tells more about the exposure. learn to expose to the right and with bright water you need to add + compensation not -. also you had dark ducks they also need + compensation
