I have used the Tamron 70-300 for years with my Rebels and 50D and I have been very happy with the results! I have the one with macro from 180-300.I hope this is helpful. Good luck.
I agree with Jimbo, the on camera flash will drain faster, speedlights have own batteries, also keeping finger on shutter button in focus mode will drain faster, which I tend to do!
I have known others to have problems, and they sent to Canon to be evaluated. Canon is very good about their product quality, and I would contact them directly either through e-mail or by phone. They will tell you where and how to send it.I have sent lenses, and one Rebel that was soft focusing. If there are any charges they will still be less than a repair shop. Good luck.
