Nicely written tribute, excellent photo with such meaningful special effect; the duration of the nation through time...
Beautiful, historic place. To think those stones were put in place before Columbus sailed the ocean blue; a lot has gone on in this old world since then!
If you can hold out for the D810 successor, it'll be a doozy....if must have now D810...
For versatility, I stick with the D5100 etc that have the articulated screen. You just can't compose well in some situations without it, and the sensors are mostly the same as in the 7000 series. Only that screw thing is missing from the D5100, so it won't auto-focus old lenses, but that's not so big an issue.
If you want to save a few bucks, you could also get some good shorts from Walmart. Since you will be wearing shorts, are you taking the photos in Florida?
Get as far from the church as possible on the 11th or twelfth with your longest lens and a tripod, an hour before sunset. Note the moon's position in relation to the church, and shoot some sample photos, varying exposure and location of the steeple and trees. Clear skies at the moon rise are essential, so, if it doesn't work out this month, try again any month. (A "super moon" is just like every other moon, you can make it larger in your computer if you want to make it look more "super"!) Also, the moon actually looks full a day or two before the true "full" moon; and the church and sky will be brighter, so you see them better, on the 12th or 13th. Hope this helps, and be sure and share those photos once you take them!
