Except for polarizers, Neutral density & Ir pass filters, the effects filters from film days can be duplicated in post processing. Save your money for lenses. As for protection, use a lens cap &/or a lens hood. Think about it. Lenses are designed using elements. When you add additional glass into the equation, that changes what gets recorded. Granted, the effects of the additional glass are not always obvious, but they are there.DSLR's do not require UV filters as they effectively remove UV wavelengths

I could not agree more Scott I feel the same way about filters. I have used a one or too only to get some affect I was looking for. Yep save your money for good lens.

I use something very similar. My device looks like a thumb drive where the SDHC card plugs into the side. Great little USB device and at $2.99 I could not resist. As far as wear goes, I have devices I have removed and inserted SD cards into 100's if not thousands of times with no apparent problems. Unlike CF cards, SD do not have pins to get bent. I keep my device in my camera bag. Picked mine up at Micro Center. Cool and useful little device.

One of the reasons CF cards pins get bent is people don't watch what they are doing they flip the card 180 and push them in the slot guess what bent pin's. If you can't remember how it goes in look for the instructions for the camera, now the better way is use the USB cable that came with the camera simple. If you must take out and then put back in, if you feel any resistance don't force it please turn it around it will slip in just fine.

Hello maureenj543

I think your xti uses a CF card if so what I have done over the years with pin that become bent is to use a empty ball point metal pen ink tube to reshape them or something with a small hole in it. Good luck let me know how it turns out...

Hi Nat

I have a Canon 7D if there’s one thing I have learned from using my 7 is in manual mode I set the cam to center spot metering, I do manual focusing when doing close up photography however on long shots I don't. Hope this helps

Hello New2blog

A while back I pruchased a Dolica GX650B204 for my Canon 7D its very sturdy 65in. tall the ball head B204 is very smooth to use the price is right too under $100 dollars by the way it will hold 17lbs of hardware. I looked at few Manfrottos of the same quality as the Dolica I just could not justfy the amount of money for the Manfrottos. Just do your home work check a round stay away from the plastic ones they are just crap. Good luck hunting have fun do it too take your time. By the way I bought mine from Amazon.com...Richard

Welcome to the site. That being said it all begins with what you like go visit a good camera store that has lots to select from. Myself I have big hands so the way they fit into my hand is important too me the buttons on them are easy to get to all things like that. In the end I decided to stay with Canon as for most of my life I have used Canon's. The choice is yours. Good luck looking have fun doing it to.
