B+W filters are made in Germany, and I don't think the Germans eat anything that would upset you except maybe sauerkraut. Slim filters are designed to prevent vignetting with wide angle lenses. They do not have threads on the front so you cannot attach anything to the front of the filter. That includes the adapter for graduated neutral density filters which you may want to use in the future. So, if you are not using a wide angle lens you may want to consider buying a non-slim filter. Rodenstock filters are also made in Germany are very fine quality - but you pay for what you get. Beware of bargains!!
