I also researched on the Internet on the two brands and Nikon edged out Canon based on my research for what I wanted.
In the end it is your decision and your money don't depend on this post you made here deciding for you. Either brand is good and neither one will make your pictures again only you can do that.
You also said distant which would imply no discernible characters with which to identify the person anyway in which case you would not need a release even for commercial use
I guess I could only be more of a dunce, if I were you.
This is a photography forum. Maybe you were not aware of that. You can kind of assume the people posting here might just own cameras and take them along on major trips.
A dah let's take a guess here...been planning on taking a trip for years to see scenic Vistas. Ummm posted to a photography forum is the second clue. Third clue is forum police wannabe questions motives behind the post. Some people really need to get a life and stop being so critical and cynical...loosen up...chill.
To the OP sorry to hear about the delays and hopefully it will have worked out when you read this.
Too much time spent on pixel peeping takes away from shooting. I see way to much of this worry on equipment and such. You buy what you can afford in equipment and make the best of it you can.
A couple of years ago I return from Peru and going through customs at LAX when I was single out. CBP escorted me to room and started going through my luggage and camera bag. The agent picked up my tripod and asked me what I use the tripod for. I explained I used the tripod for photography. He continued going through my camera bag and pulled out a Nikon camera body and asked me what it is. I told him it was a camera that goes on top of the tripod he enquired about early. I also told him I had a connecting flight back to Northern California, and if he could expedite the search so I could catch my connecting flight. The CBP agent asked me what I did for work. I pulled out my wallet and showed him my federal & county law enforcement ID. He responded that he wasn't impressed with my ID. At that point I realized this guy was going to be an ass. I told him real cops don't check dirty laundry for a living they put criminals in jail. I missed my connecting flight.

Good for you. Many of these TSA agents don't have what it takes to become real law enforcement and many get off on having authority. Too many people allow themselves to be subjected to this treatment.
Myself I would be more concerned if the required maintenance has been done correctly and all doors secured in the belly. I have not flown since shortly after the shoe bomber incident and decided I never will again subject myself to that treatment.
How stupid was this person to ask what a tripod and camera is? I drive everywhere and have no need to fly. I would like to.
If you are not in my contacts list Should I Answer app blocks the call. Simple and effective. Or just ignore it if you don't know the number. If they need you they will leave a voice mail. Then you can decide.
This is such a hard-headed egotistical bunch, always looking for a fight in some way. I did not "tout" her as an expert, but simply stated her credentials to let people know, who might be concerned,.
