I think it would be really cool if you removed all the other people out of the first shot so Mrs. Mm had it all to herself!
😉

That’s an interesting suggestion Linda2, I think I’ll have to try that!

Well I hope you went the 'proper' way up there via. Crib Goch, Magnetoman! But I suspect not with Mrs. MM. clothed as she is. I like a good day on Snowdon and to do the horseshoe is a wonderful walk offering many photographic opportunities.

So many routes to choose from John. Our was definitely the right one!

Mrs. mm is too small in the frame for me to interpret her mood or manner. Mostly, everyone looks cold but well equipped for a very rugged hike. In #2 I see the man more as hamming it up for the camera than anything to do with his being on top of the mountain. What I do like very much is the sense of place, barren and unforgiving. I feel the haze is part of the scene and that it actually aids in accentuating the distances.

Yep, they were feeling a bit nippy for sure Linda - at the start there was some doubt whether we’d get to the top due the increasing wind.
And yes, our new friend is certainly hamming it up - but was genuinely pleased to be there as this was their third attempt to get to the top - and the first time they had made it.
Like you, I think the haze is part of it - I was there over thirty years ago on a bright sunny day and the mist was similar. There must be days when it is clear, but that’s the luck of the draw. Thanks for your comments, you know they’re appreciated.

The eye tends to see less haze than the camera, mainly because our brains process what the eye sees. On top of that, you have some vivid memories of what it was like to be there as a first-hand observer. To convey that experience to an observer of your photos you'd need to do something to reduce the haze. And it would also help if you could do something to enhance the impression of distance and depth.

Hmmm...I didn’t want to lose or diminish the haze really RG., this is how it looked to me, and using dehaze doesn’t add to depth, at least to my eye, but I do think there is a ‘flatness’ about the depth - perhaps some local contrast adjustment might help? I’ll give it a go - and thanks for your thoughts, even if I don’t entirely agree, they are helpful.

Not the photographer, the mountain in Wales. Whether you walk or take the mountain railway, being up there is quite exhilarating. In the first shot Mrs mm is central and looking quite pleased with herself. The second shot is a biker couple we met on the way up - and he now uses this as his screensaver. I think both shots show the joy of being there?
I am using previously emailed pics copied back to my iPad, so will be interested to see how the uploaded quality looks.
Your thoughts and suggestions always appreciated.

You’ve chosen intriguing angles in both shots Gilbert, which adds bucket loads of interest. I get your HDR look but it’s no longer my favourite - purely a personal thing. Nicely done though.
I remember seeing Tracy Curtis-Taylor land her Stearman at Yeovilton two or three years back - both very lovely! She since had an accident with it in the desert but, given her character, I suspect it’s up and running again.

It does look to be on the road to derelict Erich, but if they’re working on it I hope it gets a new lease of life. I’ve just returned from North Wales where derelict seems to be the norm and becomes a little wearing. It all comes down to available dough of course.
Your shot is exactly the one I would have taken - assuming I’d remembered to take the wide-angle lens with me, which isn’t always the case. Have you tried a b&w conversion - might suit the mood.

A nice set from your latest acquisition Erich - I particularly like the last one. Have you tried digital pp with the scans? I’m thinking it must be so much easier than the old darkroom methods.

I go with the flow on this one - the second shot is best but I’d still remove the light areas of background as Erich suggests.

I doubt you’re going to make it beautiful Bob, but this type of subject is always attractive to the photographer (I find). Difficult to know what to do with it though - at least that’s what I end up feeling about my own similar type of shots. Crops are usually the answer, but is there really enough there to hold a viewers attention? Seldom. You certainly have a eye for the less than conformist image, which can’t be a bad thing!

As you’ve posted in FYC Bobspez, I’m assuming critique is wanted. The image generally looks rather soft although the actual point of focus is sharp. Trouble is you’re up against it with this type of close-up, most viewers will want the whole thing to be sharp. Focus stacking is one technique that can help. Is this a heavy crop? Lots of potential detail there that could be brought out with pp, but the softness won’t be your friend. Interesting flower though - I love these little orchids, there’s such a variety but some are pretty rare.

It’s a good shot, nicely exposed. I think I’d lose a bit of the sky and chop a lump off the right-hand side to improve the composition. I know it makes it rather standard but it’s an improvement - and serves to emphasis the workman.
