The D850 sensor certainly performs well! No, spring is not necessarily close at hand. I used to live in New York state. Bluebird flocks often got too far ahead of the weather and were trapped, and many succumbed to the snow, particularly if it were a wet snow. Evolution in action. March, in like a lamb (at least in my current location), out like a lion. Those berries: are they multiflora rose? Fruit look right but trees too tall.

Thanks for your comments. The tree is some sort of decorative cherry tree that was with the house when we bought it ten years ago.

It was 60+ degrees here on Saturday then on Sunday we had snow all day. Berries on the trees brought a flock of Robins. I had the 70-200mm on the D850 and caught a few shots before they left as quickly as they came. A lot of cropping going on to get to individual birds.
Enjoy, Springs got to be coming right?

I just love this forum, have been following it for months. I started in photographer at age 16 in my b/w darkroom. Have been blessed with a lot of international travel and family photography over the years. Move from my Rolei to Canon and have been there ever since. Even in my 80's, everyday is another day to learn photography, one never knows it all, that's what I love about it.

Wayne,
Welcome to the forum, it is full of great information and entertainment. Beautiful Eagle River was our home for 17 enjoyable years. Endless beauty without leaving your deck. Can't wait to see some of your photos.

I am working on my BIF photos when I get a chance. I had a few minutes after dropping my granddaughter off at her house in the western edge of the Salt Lake Valley, in Utah. I saw four of these, red-tailed hawk I think, but only one was close enough to photograph (with some cropping). Used Nikon D500 and 70-200 f2.8 VRII with 1.4 Teleconverter.

You might want to check your comments on Unions, when I lived in Western Australia 2002-2006 everything was Union. I believe it is a Union State.

Didn't mean it as a challenge, just an opinion. I think it looks really well fed for a year!!

Just kidding about the challenge, but to continue our discussion, if the snake was on the same plane as the ball, it would be about 20 balls long or about 35 in. However our photographer probably wasn't carrying more than a 200 to 300mm lens with him golfing. Also, he wasn't going too close to the snake and he didn't spook the snake (It wasn't looking at him and it didn't run.) (and the ball is out of the focal plane) I figure about 10-12 ft. away and the ball another 2 ft further so the actual size of the snake would be about 3/4 the apparent size or a little over 2 ft. long. (The snake could be 1 ft. at birth) This corresponds nicely with the 4 sheds or rattles and would put this western diamondback at around 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 years old. Check me out if you wish.

I just noticed your snake discussion and want to help correct your figures. I shot the photo with a Nikon D850 using a 28-300mm lens at 300mm. The relative proportions of the golf ball and the snake are misleading. It's like shooting the moon with a telephoto but focusing on a person on a bridge in silhouette. the golf ball looks larger than it is. The snake was more like 4-5 feet long, its body was about the diameter of my wrist. The coil of the snake was between 12" and 14" like the size of a medium pizza pan. It wasn't looking at me it was looking at my grandson who was standing closer to the snake with a golf club in case it decided to uncoil. It was a very healthy and fairly large rattle snake. Like others mentioned, it looked well fed.

Here are a few shots involving the Full Moon on 2/8/2020 from a small lake just south of St. George, Utah. I didn't have a tripod with to get better closeups of the moon.

Trying to get moon detail led to this shot

Several years ago I spent a week at the Katmai Wilderness Lodge on Kodiak Island. I was there primarily for Kodiak bear photography. The experience was fantastic and the food was wonderful. The couple that run it are friendly and accommodating. The cabins are rustic. I have no hesitancy about repeating my trip.

Sorry Cameralark, but I believe the bears in Katmai are Brown Bears, the only Kodiak Bears are on Kodiak Island across the Sheilikof Strait. Katmai is a great place to photograph bears, but it is not on Kodiak Island.

Nikon Nikkor AF-S 24-70 f/2.8G ED Lens for sale!

This is a great lens, used but respectfully cared for with UV filter always in place. Glass is pristine and everything works as if it were new. This is the middle (and I believe best) lens of the Nikon Holy Trinity. I just received the latest version as a gift so this lens needs a new home.

Comes with original packaging, and lens hood. Rear cap, front lens cap and CL-M3 soft case included. Also, the UV filter will stay with the lens.

$950.00 including shipping in lower 48 states.

Marc,
What a GREAT video! I am planning on visiting some dark sky sites and hope to see and photo what you have shown in your very impressive creation.

Could you share the model of camera and settings you used?

Thanks for spending the time to create and produce this video.
