I have shot in RAW, but seldom do anymore. I'm almost 71 years old, and I figure that after I die, no one will give two hoots and a holler about any of my photos - so what's the point of shooting raw?

Were these taken through a window?
Well done, Doreen. I think you accomplished your goal very well. A beautiful photo!
I haven't been a member of UHH very long, but I haven't seen any more negativism, snide remarks, and downright meanness here than on any of the other photo forums I belong to. Some people don't understand the meaning of 'constructive' criticism, and tend to criticize everyone and everything...and yes, there are a lot of 'know-it-all's" out there. This forum, however, seems to have a lot more people who genuinely want to help those who ask for it. I learned a long time ago to keep my comments to myself unless a poster asks for a photo review...goodness knows, I have learned a lot from folks who critique my images, and I still am eons away from knowing it all. I just try to remember that, no matter where we go, we're still going to run into those folks who seem to require a personal, full-time proctologist.
Why does one have to be a "phobe" because he/she doesn't care for the gay lifestyle? A phobia is a fear, and I'm neither afraid of gays nor question my own sexuality. I just don't care for the idea or reality of homosexuality. I guess that must be why I use a DSLR.

I have been using the 24-105L as my 'walk around' lens since 2009. As I type this, it is on the way back from repairs at Canon for the ERR-1 problem: "loss of contact between lens and camera." I don't know whether it was the ribbon cable inside or what, but the repair cost just over $300, and it is my understanding that the problem is not uncommon with the 24-105. For an L lens, that's ridiculous.....but still, I do dearly love the lens. It has very high-quality glass, and is sealed....and I get great photos with it. You might also like the 17-40.

NOT A KYLEMORE ABBEY PHOTO!!! I NEED HELP!
While using one of my 2 my Canon 50Ds in England last week, my camera quit on me, and I got an "ER-1" message that the camera and 24-105L lens had lost contact with each other. I immediately removed the lens and cleaned the gold contacts on both body and lens with isopropyl alcohol. That didn't work. Later that afternoon, when I tried again, the camera took two great photos, and then gave me the same error message and quit working. Since coming home, I've tried the camera/lens combo several times with no error message. Have any of you ever encountered this? If so, short of sending them both back to Canon, were you able to fix the problem? If so, how? I'm so frustrated!
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

This is a perfect example of why the "Rule of Thirds" should be used as a guideline, and not a "hard and fast" rule. This shot is stunningly composed. Well done!
