I think the first one is better. I don't mind the background but it might be improved with a little more blur on the background.

Love your pictures. We planned to visit Glacier this past summer when we were travelling through Montana but the park was closed because of all the snow and not expected to open until July 20 or after. After seeing your pictures I think we need to plan another trip up north.

I sometimes use a colored poster board behind the flower. Green often works well but other colors work well too. Depends on the color(s) in the flower and the look I am going for. Since they are for close-ups you do not need a very large piece of poster board.

I especially like number 1 and 3. Would like to see number 1 from a perspective of just a few inches higher so you can see a little more of the lake surface. Perhaps a slower shutter speed so the water fall motion is not so sharp.

Very interesting effect and makes your photo really pop! Did you mean to leave the lower left corner of the white frame incomplete? I am thinking that completing the white frame would make the photo a little better.

I think the first photo is much better but a little cropping like Nikonian 72 suggested makes it better. The second photo with the flash created shadows which I found very distracting. If this is your first close-up, I am impressed.
