Many thanks Greg. An excellent viewpoint, which of course I had completely overlooked. This is the complete answer. I am however a little sad that the style of your reply is rather curt, unfriendly and somewhat patronising. Not everyone Is as knowledgeable as you. I do however understand your problem with the pressure of hurricane Sandy being so close. I hope you remain safe. Thanks again.

Thanks for this. The Canon 600d is the only digital camera I have been unable to find a menu option for 16x9 aspect ratio anywhere. However since my initial post I have discovered I can set the aspect ratio to 16x9 when I use the image screen, but not when using the viewfinder. This of course is a poor substitute. I am now on my third time going through the manual but still not found a solution.

I have just used Google Chrome and typed in the question, 'Whats new in Photoshop Elements 11. Loads of stuff came up. Lots of uTube clips and other comments, so I suspect a number of people feel they have found new things in Elements 11.

I need to shoot some images at 16 x 9 aspect ratio to be shown in slide presneetaion on television. It will be a rushed job, as the shots will need to be available on screen almost immediately with no time to resize in Photoshop for instance. I will be using a Canon 600D and cannot find a setting that enables me to do this, although I am told it is possible. Can anyone assist with confirming whether or not this is possible and if so how I access the settings

I spend half of my life living in South Africa and have done safari trips in Kenya, Botswana and the Kruger Park in South Africa. I agree with all the information about lenses, etc, already posted. Tripods are out of the question really as carriage is a problem and a large hefty one would be necessary anyway. You do not walk too much (run a lot if confronted with lions, hippos, water buffalo or snakes) though. One item that is very useful is a bean bag. This is by far the best way to support a camera on the roof/windows of a vehicle and still allow some movement for composition, etc, although this has limitations if other people in the vehicle cannot be persuaded to keep still, which of course is impossible when there are so many things to see all around you. The good thing of course is that for much of the time, light is good so fast shutter speeds help the problem. However there will be the inevitable dawn and dusk shots to consider where sunsets, particularly, will be spectacular. One of the most amazing things you will ever see is the yellow light around dawn in these areas. You must do all you can to try and capture this wonderful light. Usually game drives start no later than 6.00am so you should get loads of shots around dawn. Good luck and enjoy.

Don't worry about it, my camera equipment, my golf clubs my iPhone and all its apps are all 'toys' to my wife and she never fails to remind me when she sees me with them. Only things like the dishwasher, the washing machine and especially the iron, she never sees as toys and I would never dream of mentioning it.
