It seems like your good at finding places like this & nice photos.

Thanks tcthome. I have fun researching new area's to explore especially with the national parks becoming so overcrowded. Today we have -18 windchills outside. Perfect day to plan my next trip!

Wonderful set, Matt! Thanks for sharing with the old people.

Thanks UTMike! No need to be young & in shape to take this picture though. I took it next to a forest road.

I camped here a couple nights last fall. It was so quiet & peaceful compared to the mobs of people along the front range. Very much a hidden gem.

All good pix but for me the first one is pretty scary. I have had some run ins with lightning and would have retreated well before the top of the pass.

I haven't been there for decades but I remember a crashed light plane just beyond Lake Dorothy. Is it still there?

If fact, I stopped to have a bite to eat and drink of water in front of the Fourth of July mine downhill from the pass and sat on a what I thought was a nice comfortable car seat. I wondered who had made the effort to haul it up there. I didn't realize at the time that it was from the crashed plane. When I got to the plane it was obvious that was the source of the seat.

Interesting story about the plane. I didn't hike past Lake Dorothy but I would assume the plane is still there. It was 30 degrees with snow flurries so there wasn't much chance of lightning.

Great set. Good thing it was a cold fall day - the tops of those passes are really dangerous with lightning in the summertime!

Thanks sb. That's the nice thing about late fall, no thunder storms.
