Fotoartist asks: "...is the Anti-anti-vaccine argument settled science?"

Hah! Remember "flat earth"? How about "Earth is the center of the solar system"? There's no such thing as "settled science" because every day some inquiring mind discovers something new that repudiates what is considered the absolute last word on any scientific matter.

"Settled science" is a POLITICAL concept, promoted by those who push for policy changes. Anyone who dares to contradict "settled science" with alternate theories or countervailing actual evidence is villified, ridiculed and branded a heretic, threatened with job loss, hounded out of office, fired and sometimes imprisoned to prevent the spread of truth. Remember what has happened to the thousands of scientists who never supported the "human-caused global warming" myth? They lost funding, lost jobs, lost titles so their truth was summarily suppressed. The so-called 97 per cent consensus of climate scientists touted by Al Gore and Obama who supported the myth was composed of 97% of fewer than two hundred individuals, pushed by governments for policy reasons to blame man-made carbon dioxide emissions for super extremely inflated computer modelling predictions of changing climate that have all proven overly pessimistic over the last two decades. "Consensus", by the way, is not science, and definitely not "settled science". Consensus is simply opinion awaiting proof or disproof.

The same thing is happening with this pandemic crisis. And Snopes has been known to be wrong in the past, and not above political influence. There are just too many inconsistencies from official sources about Coroavirus and Covid-19--its spread, its effects, the mainstream media pushing the panic button, and the actual effectiveness of mandated responses--to accept everything at face value. The are many emerging studies by well-respected medical professionals indicating that vaccines can have deleterious effects. But the uproar against them is loud because the medical establishment has much to lose financially (billions!) if the push for world-wide mandatory vaccinations is halted.

Did you get to swim in the lake? Anytime I come upon a lake like that I just have to try it out.

It all devolves to the political left in this country which is determined to reduce the power and influence of this country vis-a-vis the rest of the world's nations. For decades socialists have infested every level of our education system, every level of government and every level of business. They have been very successful changing curricula--kindergarten to university graduates--to dumb down the awareness level of children and young adults and their ability to communicate effectively. Every addition to these curricula avoids emphasis on the three "Rs", focusing instead on any and all actual and imagined societal mistakes made during the evolution of this country, down playing its exceptionalism, emphasizing the "evils" of capitalism, real or imagined racism, and other such denigrations.

Every effort is being made eliminate Christianity and Christian values from the American consciousness (forces that for two centuries have built the character of the United States and engendered and supported this nation' remarkable success), to replace them with moral relativism, atheism and communism.

Every effort is being made by educators and left-leaning politicians to eliminate critical thinking among students, quash open dialogue by demonizing any and all expressions of conservative and Christian ideas as "hate speech".

So very few of our youth are being schooled in the value of good grammar, a strong vocabulary, and the joy and value of reading great literature that it is no surprise to those who grew up in the forties, fifties and sixties, that later learners have such poor grasp of and competence with the language of our country. This has given rise to at least one generation of educators who can only school others to the level of their own ignorance.

As this continues, the respect for and support of the principles upon which this country was founded and which promoted its incredible growth will founder and die, as will prosperity and liberty.

Sic transit gloria patria!

No custodian, SonyBug is absolutely right about his perception. But I believe women do not CHANGE after marriage: they just reveal the aspects of their true selves that they had hidden during courtship. Like the "trap door" spider, they instinctively deceive their targeted prey before pouncing.

Being grumpy is one of the few real pleasures of being old!

Were there a stand-in for the V-P, stand-ins for agents would be no problem either. Could be a stretch, but with the false information we're getting from all sides these days...who knows?

I just don't think it was folly, or arrogance. Mr Pence doesn't strike me as that type.

TheShoe: "...you do not "have got" it."

True: the better conjugation would be: "get, got, have gotten, had gotten, will have gotten, would have gotten". Now get a gat and blow this string to bits!

Sorry billnikon, but you are incorrect. One does not "pre-drill" a hole or anything else. Any pre-drilling action would be getting the tool, finding the requisite drill bit, inserting and locking the bit, plugging the drill into a power socket (or attaching a charged battery), and aiming the bit to the target location.

What you are referring to is PREPARING a hole for a screw to avoid splitting the wood.

I think there was an unmentioned aspect of V-P Mike Pence not wearing a mask: he wanted to be seen and recognized as who he is, giving hope and a sense of purpose to those he visited. Any similarly-built mask-wearing government functionary could pose as the V-P for a photo op.

Of minor annoyance to me are those ignoramuses (ignorami?) who try to sound erudite but don't know that "whence" means "from where" or "from which place" and add an unecessary "from" to a sentence, e.g. "from whence he came...".
