Matagorda County typically has one of the highest counts of different type birds every year!

Problem solved, while I was typing the last response I had an idea to turn off network access and disable security. I tried HDR merge again and it worked. After some investigation I found that the security "folder control access" was blocking all access to the folder by lightroom. I added LR as an exception and now everything works fine. Thanks for the replies!

The default directory is correct but the image is not in the default directory. I would expect to see the file in the directory but it doesn't look like it's being created.

When trying to do a HDR merge in lightroom I get this error:

Photo merge error
Unable to merge the photos.
Failed to import the final merged result from
C:\users\pictures\teton\img_470-HDR.dng

I don't believe it's a lightroom error but may be something in Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) the image
referenced isn't in the folder. I've done HDR merges previously that worked and there have been
no lightroom upgrades. This just started recently. Any ideas what I should try?

I was fortunate enough to live and work in YNP from March thru September 2017 and have over 10,000 images to prove it. I now live 2 hours away and try to go there at least once a month. I try to stay away from where I know the crowds will be (Geyser basins, Mammoth, canyon area) especially during the summer and just before Labor day. In September the crowd changes from people with children to an older mature set (that sometimes forget how to drive and park) but there are still crowds. In September you can get hit with a snowstorm virtually any day. I left there on Sept. 25 with 1 foot on the ground and a mini-blizzard happening. When I was there last month, the majority of animals that I found were in Lamar valley. I got there at 6 AM and there were some animals (bear and elk) around Mammoth. By 10 AM there were just too many people in the Mammoth area. If you aren't locked into your Gardner stay, consider West Yellowstone, it's a much easier drive into the park and more centrally located for the various park areas. From Gardner it will take 2 hours or more (mostly more) to Old Faithful area, half that from West Yellowstone, just a thought. Always keep a camera handy as you never know when an opportunity will arise (especially with bear). Other than that, have a great time!

AMD processosr have always been better at graphics (and audio) processing because of their internal micro-coding. Intel has always been better at number crunching.

I always carry a Canon point and shoot camera in my car just in case, plus there's always a cell phone camera for an emergency photo.

I lived in Yellowstone for 5 months several years ago while working in Canyon village. I now live only a 2 hour drive from there so can go back several times a month. I find that areas like Mammoth are best in the morning as the shadows make the terraces stand out. Right now I've seen more wildlife in Lamar than in Hayden. The geysers around the Old Faithful area are best in the afternoon. The canyon area is best mid-day. When I was there yesterday, I saw a Grizzly just South of Mammoth and it was close enough that a 600 mm got a good full frame image. In Lamar there was a black bear but I doubt that even a 1200 mm would have been enough to get a decent image. the Bison were easily shot with a wide angle. Also there was an Elk in the middle of Mammoth village. For some odd reason, this year the wildlife isn't as plentyful as it was several years ago. Between West Yellowstone, MT and Madison Junction, several years ago there were a large number of different animals, this year I have yet to see any. In Hayden, the same is true this year and I've been told that the wolf sightings are better now in Lamar. Hope this helps, enjoy your trip.

Just went to Yellowstone today. Spent time at Mammoth Hot Springs and in Lamar valley. Saw a grizzley just South of Mammoth and a black bear in Lamar plus lots of Bison. Got to the West gate at around 6:30 AM and had 2 cars in front of me. In Lamar (around Noon) I had lines of cars coming in from the Northeast gate. Around 1 PM the park really filled up. On my way back from Lamar (there's only one way you can go as Dunraven pass between Tower and Canyon is closed) around 2 PM the lines in Mammoth were about 30 people long to get into the general store and for places for food. Oh, and there was an Elk in the middle of all the people calmly eating grass. Only took around 300+ images. The terraces at Mammoth really photograph great early in the AM as the shadows make them stand out. Mid day they wash out and you really can't see the terrace effect. A few more places to add to your list are Udine Falls between Mammoth and Tower and the Firehole canyon drive. The waterfalls were spectacular at these locations!

I forgot to add one thing, be careful about the time you plan on going there. I left there on September 25 with 1 foot of snow on the ground, a blizzard going on and I was pulling a 38' fifth wheel. It snowed there every month from May thru September

I worked in Yellowstone for a whole summer and spent nearly every day exploring the park. I worked in the Canyon Village campground so I was close to the canyon and Hayden valley. I moved to Idaho last year so that I could be close to both the Tetons and Yellowstone and spend time there every few weeks. Number 1 suggestion, carry bear spray whenever you're hiking. Buy it outside the park at a Walmart as it will save you lots of $ over inside the parks or close by cities prices. As far as hiking, maps are available at visitor centers that give more details. The hikes that I enjoyed the most were to Fairy Falls (level), to the overlook of Grand Prismatic Spring (off of the same trail) and to Mystic falls. There are also miles of trails in the upper geyser basin (Old Faithful area), to Artist paintpots, around Mammoth hot springs, in the canyon area and to many other waterfalls. All of the trails can be done in several hours or less depending on how much time you want to spend. As far as astrophotography, you don't have to go too far from your hotel to have dark skys even in the parking lot of where you're staying. Now, when I was there I spent a lot of time in Hayden valley as it was only a 10 minute drive (longer if there was a buffalo jam on the road). any of the pulloffs are good for wildlife however, toward the South end of the valley there is a parking lot on the East side of the road with room for about 20 cars that overlooks the valley. It is in this area that the wolves (and other wildlife) can be seen and there is usually a crowd there. Many have spotting scopes as the wolves are usually over a mile away. Most people will let you look thru their scope and if you're lucky the ranger that is the wolf specialist will be there, I can't remember his name but if you watch any of the videos on Yellowstone when they talk about wolves, he's the one they interview and very interesting to talk too. While I was there I saw a bear and wolf fighting over an Elk carcass a really amazing event to see but unable to photograph as it was too far away. Just remember to expect the unexpected. The last thing that I will say is that in the time I was there I took over 10,000 images and everytime I go now I shoot at least 500. If you need info about the Tetons, let me know and I can give you that also as I spent time there also.

I've had good luck printing my canvas at Walmart and you don't need to be a member to have them done. 16 X 20's are around $40 at my local store.

I am considered a computer geek and unless you are a pro photographer, any Windows 10 pro computer with either a I-5 or I-7 processor 8 to 16 GB ram and a 1 TB or larger solid state drive should be all that you should need. Being Microsoft certified I obviously don't prefer Apple products as they are overpriced and except for the operating system, run the same basic hardware as Windows computers. If you compare oranges to oranges (I didn't want to say apples to apples) identical systems (same specifications) are compareable but pricewise Windows systems win hands down.

I use the larger SD cards and the minute I remove them from the camera I lock the card. There's a switch on the left side of the card that locks it from erasing the images, that may help in the future.
