I will be trying to get some good milky way shots this spring and summer. I own a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 lens that I have used for these shots in the past. I have just found that Sigma now has a 20mm f/1.4 lens for sale. The question becomes will I get substantially more with the 20mm lens than I am getting with the 24mm lens?. I don’t mind buying the wider lens IF it means better photos but I sure don’t want to spend the money for minimal differences. If it makes any difference, I am shooting a Canon 5D mark IV.

I would rent the 20mm sigma 1.4 first. I was shooting with a Nikon D 850. I had one and found the coma unacceptable and sold it. Read all the reviews first and use the rental to see if the image is acceptable to you. I use a sigma Art 14-24 and love it. Also have a sigma art 14 1.8 and needs a stop down to assist with coma. Cheers.

Have a request in with Topaz help but wanted to ask UHH if anyone else is having this problem. In the middle of a project, I started getting trial versions of sharpen and denoise AI programs. Fine, just have to log back in happened before. That didn't work so I tried to reset my password. This did not work, still couldn't log back in. Tried several times in case I mistyped ...to no avail. Thanks for any comments you may have!

Happened to me too yesterday with topaz sharpen. I went to edit in sharpen and was told I had a trial version. It brought up a sign in screen and after finding and entering my password, all then worked normally. In todays world, a minor glitch.

Good Morning,

Have you used the unit at all?? I am interested in it. How long does it go without the battery pack?? I want it strictly for astro photography. If you can give your impressions of it /
Thanks You,

Charles Jones

Just received it 2 days ago but realized immediately I did not want to add 4 pounds 6 ounces to my backpack. Load capacity is rated at 7kg and by the build quality I have no doubt about this. The battery pack is built into the unit but you can also use a power brick. I have only charged it to make sure it was functional and it is. I have not downloaded apps or software and the weather here in Seattle is not very conducive to Astro.

New, Benro Polaris Programmable Equitorial tracking mount with astro package, also provides programmable pano shooting and time lapse. Google Benro Polaris for details. I was backer # 1830 on Kickstarter as I found this to be a truly remarkable and innovative device, I still find it to be that, but I was not paying attention to how much it would weigh, 4 pounds 6 ounces. It is built like a tank and the fit and finish is on a par with anything I have seen, period. Since most of my astro involves a back pack, and I have been trying to lighten my load (changed from Nikon D 850 to Z7 ii and some new Z lenses that will hopefully compare to my Sigma Art glass), I find the weight a deal breaker, especially since I do not do time lapse and rarely shoot panos. This product is not yet available in the public market and when it is the projected price is $995. I offer mine here for my kickstarter introductory price of $650, complete with all cables, quick release plate and a user manual that I download and printed. Photo of the head as mounted on my Pro Media Gear tripod (of course, tripod, leveling base and RRS quick release plates not included). I accept Zelle, cashier’s check, personal check with shipping delay for funds to clear. Shipping to be by Fed Ex, shipping costs are negotiable.

Nikon Battery Grip for Nikon D 850 – This is a Nikon Battery Grip, MB-D18. This is not a third party imitation. Included is a Pro Media Gear “L” bracket specific for this grip on the D 850. Both items appear as new. Included is the original Nikon box for the battery grip. Also included are the two battery trays for use in the grip, one for the normal battery and one for 8 AA batteries, and a soft case. Also included is a Watson B-3416-2 battery pack that replaces the Nikon EN-EL 18c and the chamber cover to allow use of this battery in the grip, also included is the charger for this specific battery. Battery shows as new. Price new for all was $ 775, price here is $ 550. The battery grip is currently on back order from most retailers. Shipping is negotiable, would prefer to sell as a package but may consider separating items. Will accept payment via Zelle, cashiers check or personal check after funds clear.

I have done a little astrophotography and would like to do more. I am considering the MSM motor tracker and the Unistellar eVscope2. I would appreciate any insight into the pros and cons of each, as well as experienced based opinions of preference. Does not appear that one can attach a camera body to the eVscope. Not sure if I am correct. I shoot with Z9, D850 and I have all of the 2.0 and 2.8 lenses. Light pollution is a a big factor. I live in a suburb of Detroit in the winter (light polluted) and Nantucket in the summer (not light polluted).
I did search the Astro section and did not see anything posted.
Thank you

I currently use a MSM tracker. I used to use a iOptron Sky Guider Pro, with the extension bar and counterweight with a Nikon D 850 and Sigma Art 14-24 2.8 and Williams Optics wedge. Since most of my Milky Way photography involves carrying my equipment a little way, the iOptron, bar and counterweight got very heavy pretty fast. When the MSM tracker came out I bought one. I love it. To lessen weight on the tracker I use a small Sirui B-00 ballhead on it, and it works great. Since the MSM is pretty inexpensive, I bought a second one in case I burned out the first one as I was approaching the advised weight limit. I have used the MSM for probably 2 hours straight on 6 different outings without any issues. I normally shoot 90 second exposures and it tracks very well with only the latitude as marked on the Williams Optics wedge and north alignment via cell phone and a bracket on the MSM. I do not like the MSM wedge, it feels imprecise and has no latitude markings. The Williams Optics is heavier and more expensive but in this case you get what you pay for. The MSM Z bracket is well made and a good value if you need one. To reduce my carrying weight and to reduce the load on the MSM, I got a Nikon Z7 ii and the new Nikon Z 14-24 2.8 S. I can only hope it is as good as my Sigma Art, I know its about a pound lighter :). Hope this helps. Cheers. Alan.

Does anyone have any personal experience with this lens for Milky Way photography, particularly as relates to coma in the corners? I have read all the reviews I can find and it is generally highly rated but coma is rarely, specifically mentioned in any great detail in the reviews. I would prefer to hear from actual, non endorsed users. Currently I use the Sigma Art 14 -24 2.8 (and other Sigma Art lenses) on a D 850 and it shows very little coma, but I have recently acquired a Nikon Z7 ii and am looking to further reduce weight as Milky Way photography pretty much dictates carrying your gear for a ways and it seems like my current gear keeps putting on weight :). Thanks for any insight that you can provide.

I have been trying to learn BBF for about a year now. The biggest problem I'm having is shooting birds in flight. I have a Canon t6s and an 18mm-400mm lens. I'm using Manual but would Aperture or Shutter priority be better?
I always shoot with plenty of light, morning or afternoon, one-shot, 19 pt AF. shutter speed??? I have heard this lens is soft above 300mm and I have not gone higher than that. I have good results on anything not moving. Any help would certainly be appreciated.

If you have not checked out Steve Perry at Backcountry Gallery, you should. He has excellent books and videos on this very topic.

You’ll get a lot of different responses, but I like and use ProMedia Gear.
