After yesterday’s outing, I found that I was too tired to stay up last night and shoot the night sky. This morning, while putting away the camera, I decided to stick my 24mm macro lens on the camera, and wander around the front yard. With the higher temperatures, the snow is rapidly melting, and flooding the front yard. Our friend has a collection of local rocks on the porch, and as I was looking at one closely, I liked the way that the light hit the ridges. Tried to get a clear shot hand held, which doesnt always work.

We drove down to our old town to visit a friend, and while they were out shopping, I took a drive about looking for any pictures buried in the snow. (though the days are warm, they’ve had a lot of snow down here)
I ended up at a small lake that was sunny and there were a large number of people out enjoying the warm sun. I walked about and found ducks, geese, and little birds.
again, all shot with the 300/2.8 with a TC-14A teleconverter
(i realize that the use of the teleconverter is why I had come to think the 300/2.8 was a manual lens)
It’s a learning curve using this beast. Also, at 2.8, the CA is horrendous!

...that my new lens was an autofocus lens. (Nikkor ED AF 300/2.8) For some odd reason I had it in my mind that it was a manual lens. I reckon I’ll chalk this up to old age. I decided to order a D810 after coming across one with just a little over 6500 shots on it. I’m looking forward to learning how to utilize its many features.

Anyhow, I saw these three duck flying towards me just after setting it to autofocus. Would any of you know what variety of duck this is?

....was out inspecting Main Street today and got their approval. I notice that they aren’t checking side streets, which are in need of patching.

the weather here today was beautiful....40 degrees...sounds cool to many of you, but we have been cold a long time. While visiting a friend, I took a drive along the river to find a spot where geese might be. I found a pair, and spent my time creeping closer to them.

Of course, taking my time with this behemoth on my camera was indeed a workout. I didn't exactly get the focus nailed, but I like this lens quite a bit. I had the lens on my D7000 with a TC-14A

I have been selling off a number of old lenses, and came across my Mamiya/Sekor 55/1.4. I plan on keeping this one, and it usually goes on my EM-1. I wanted to shoot a pic with it, and decided a shot of my 1959 Exakta VXlla with the Isco was in order.
I acquired this camera in a lot which I purchased mainly for the lenses. The camera turned out to be in near new condition.

Dug out this old fun lens today, the Rokinon 8/3.5. I was laying on the floor trying to see how close I could get to the one dog, when the other decided to see if the lens ‘might’ be edible.

We went out to a friend’s house this evening, and
I decided to bring the beast along. This thing is hard to shoot hand held, but I am pleased with this shot.

The event is so far in the past, and everyone that was involved with it is dead; it seems funny that there are still ppl out there coming up with 'theories' as to what causes the ship to sink.

Along that line, have you heard the one about congress wanting to pass the Federal Reserve/Income Tax act, but 3 very rich men were against the passage of the bill. Those 3 men just happened to be on the Titanic when it sank.

Did you also know that the Titanic was built alongside its sister ship, the Olympic? The Olympic was launched in 1911 and was later in an accident with a tugboat which caused substantial damage to the hull. When the White Star Line sought coverage for the damages, the insurance carrier refused to pay. There is a theory out there that when the Olympic was brought into dry dock for repairs, that it was actually switched out for the Titanic and deliberately sunk.

But again, if there was foul play, everyone responsible is dead.

I just received this in the mail. Last year I sold off my Nikkor 300/4 PF as we needed some extra money, and more than a few times regretted letting it go. I went online looking for a replacement and ended up with this model. Im looking forward to getting this one out in the field....not today, though, as it is quite snowy here.
This thing is a beast, weighing in at 5.2 pounds!

Don’t worry about what Elliot says, sharpness is a bourgeois concept. I like the rendering of this lens.

No worries; we all have our opinions. None of them are wrong and it does no good to be upset and fight over them. We will still keep shooting and producing what pleases ourselves.
